That separation of seams at the top of your rear seat is a common weal spot in our cars. It must come from being a direct hit from the sum. I had mine repaired, I'm embarrassed to admit what I paid to get it fixed.

Serpentine accessory belt self-destructed a couple months ago. Been away from the car and finally got the crankshaft pulley off... Belt definitely went into the engine. I suspected as much.

Now I'm trying to figure out all the tools and what I need to do.

I hadn't drained the oil yet but so far - little to no silvery specs... So, it's not like it's destroyed any bearings yet. But, the usual suspects of jumping timing and oil starvation and so forth are concerning.

I'll be dropping the oil pan but I have to buy an engine support hanger first and probably a couple other tools.

Anyone who's done this know the best guides/DIY/pics/videos and what tools I should be looking for *and* anything else I should be replacing at this time if the car is otherwise stock and got 90k miles? I'm wondering if it's worth it to refresh things like motor mounts and whatnot - assuming the engine isn't toast, lol... If it's gone... I don't even know what I'll do.

Started the water pump job...that upper bolt isn't very friendly. I was hoping that dropping the sway bar and P/S line would be enough, but not with these hands. Removing the rad fan should give me enough room to get my big fat hand in there.
With that and the air intake out of the way, might as well inspect/clean the vanos solenoids, as well as clean the remnants of an old oil leak off the front of the engine.
This could take a while...

Other than getting coolant all over yourself it's definitely the hardest part of the job. I was able to get a socket on it but there was a few extensions, swivel, swearing, and other things involved.

If you remove the radiator fan, you'll also have an easy access to the belts and pulleys, in case that might be on your to-do list anytime soon.

The clips on each side of the fan were the hardest part for me. Trying to jam small screwdrivers in them enough to get the fan out but not so hard to break anything.

I did the belt/tensioner/pully thing last year.
The fan is out...took me a try or two to figure out the clip on the left side. Lol, going to need a new upper rad hose now, too. That little nipple that goes to the expansion tank is very fragile.

I can't get the sound of a snowball rolling down a mountainside out of my head...

Haha, well.... I did nearly the same thing and broke the nipple and had to replace the upper rad hose. After getting everything reinstalled nicely, I proceeded break the expansion tank hose itself when clipping it back into place. As it has a.....wait for it, I'm sure you will be surprised......plastic/composite lining!!! Just waiting to break on you too.

Replaced my rear left wheel speed sensor. Was getting shadow code “DEC005” No dashboard warning codes. The screw that holds the sensor was kind of loose when I removed it. I wonder if this was causing the shadow code. I replaced it anyway since I already bought it. 🍻

Me too. Nice new upper rad hose is a "bonus" while-we-were-in-there, I suppose.

I was thinking the same...kind of glad it happened now, rather than on the road two weeks from now. I could see it breaking if I hit it while pulling the fan out, but that wasn't the case. I was just moving the hose after popping it off the coolant tank, and it snapped.

I have the B12 with DINAN rear mounts & camber plates as well as M3 control arms, 8mm wheel spacers, and the Eibach Front bar (rear bar, diff mounts and poly RSFB soon!) on my 2011 Sport

The car is only slightly lower than M-sport suspension, slightly firmer with a little more oversteer (even without the rear bar!), Roll is well controlled, turn in is sharp, Transient (hard left to right swerve) response is predictable. Steering feel is increased.

Bilsteins have a little "edge" to them on small impacts that make them a little more jiggly but still totally liveable day to day. They handle bigger bumps way better than 100000 mile stockers! (of course they do!)

No regrets at all.
