Ordered the door lock trim and finally pulled the trigger on a zhp knob!
I also had in mind the BMW performance and BFI’s GS2 with perforated leather in maritime blue, but I don’t think I would have liked the feel of the performance knob and I was reading reviews that the stock shift boot is too tight for the BFI knob.

The ZHP is nice, I had it on my e30 and enjoyed it. But I went with the BMW Performance knob and Alcantara boot on the 128i - It matches the chrome interior trim, and is very comfortable compared to the original knob. Can't go wrong with the ZHP though

I would go with the lit version. I think the F10 M5 knob is what you need.

I put a lit M gearknob in my 328i back in 2006 and still enjoying it to this day when driving at night.

This is one thing I definitely want to do. Add an F10 M5 lit shift knob. But I’m not really interested in spending $300 on a shift knob. Unless there’s a used one floating around…

You mind posting some pictures?

How is the weight? I think that knob is 12oz compared to the 6oz of the zhp.

Edit: the Performance knob definitely is the most interesting looking!

Polished and ceramic coated the car over Friday and Saturday. I think this was the first time the car has ever been machine polished so the results were fairly dramatic. It's not perfect but MUCH better and happy owner

I have a big order of suspension parts arriving on Wednesday to keep the fun going.

Looks fantastic! Do you have any before pics? I’m assuming it was a dramatic difference.

Wow. I like the alcantara boot too! I may buy that set up and compare between the two!

Still battling where this oil leak is coming from. I ran some dye through and the oil cooler gasket is holding well. The only thought I have is is coming from the oil cooler lines and somehow making its way up. Even though those gaskets are brand new. Everything is brand new actually. Oil is also leaking at the oil cooler line connecting to the oil cooler itself (new gaskets). Maybe the remedy is entirely new oil cooler lines?

The orange circle and purple circle is where I’m finding the oil pooling.

Just thinking out loud, clean the entire area - maybe some dawn mixed in water and sprayed on, then off with clean water. Hit it with rags, q tips, compressed air, whatever and get it as clean as possible. Then let the engine run and see if you can tell when it comes back and maybe, if lucky, form where. Keep in mind it can run along something a ways first.

You mentioned dye - was that in the whole system? That should in theory tell you what's up. Assuming you have a black light at least. Wait until night to really see it. Or if that's not what you did, you could consider it.

Any chance the housing has a crack and it's not a gasket?

When I had it all apart and off the block, I used brake cleaner and a soft wire brush to clean everything. So I know this puddle is brand new. I have a pro grade UV light as well that I used in the dark to capture this. See the attached photo.

I checked both oil filter housing and oil cooler gasket (new). They are dry.

The idea of the housing being cracked is maybe possible however I didn’t have this problem before I changed all the gaskets.

First, nice sleuthing work. Sheesh, frustrating! All I can think is maybe clean it again, thoroughly, and then basically stand there waiting for it to come back and see if you can watch it happen.

Maybe a q-tip poked around the area, see if it's wet underneath that line, or anywhere else int he neighborhood? To see if it's running along the edge of something else and then making its way down to that puddle after travelling a little ways.

If the underside of that line has glowing oil, you might have the answer. For example.

Turned 150k today.

I've had it for less than 10k. But still a big milestone for the car.

If I had to guess, oil leaking on the underside of the union between the crimp and hard line.

Yeah - and if it is, don't even have to do the steps I was suggesting. Clean the snot out of the area, ensure it's bone dry, give it a run, and then touch your finger to the bottom of that line. If it's back to being wet, that's the source.

Clean it well and grab a can of dr scholls foot powder spray. A light dusting and the oil will leave tell tale traces.

Also works on golf club faces to see where your contact is.....

Today was wheel switch day (winter set off/summer set on) and replace the aftermarket right headlamp assembly with a Valeo OEM used but in "pristine" condition. The aftermarket one was really only a stop-gap until I could find a suitable OEM assembly. Now waiting for the H7 65 Watt bulbs from Daniel Stern Lighting.

Summer set out of its dark storage spot in the corner of the garage:

The new used right headlight assembly - the lens was "pristine" as advertised but the guide hole on the fender side was broken.

The gaping cavity:

Installed and ready to light the way:

At least you dont have to deal with the adaptive Xenon ones. They are so finicky and I hope I don’t have to deal with issues any time soon. 🙄
