how hot is "too" hot for oil?
I get up to about 250 on the street sometimes. I saw a little higher on the track. What is the safe limit?

Not sure about N55, but on N54, the oil cooler thermostat opens around 245f, so 250 is normal.
Power reduction on N54 starts at 298f oil temp or 243f water temp. |

Seriously though... I think anything higher than 265' F and I would stat to take it easy. Over here in (cool) Germany... I never see anthing higher than 255' F. And most of the time I run under 245' F. Dackel |

I run 270 no problem but I would start taking it easy over 280

On a really hot day at the track my N55 hit about 265-70...cooler days and I barely hit 250.

On another 100 degree day on the same track, mine stayed below 260 for four 30 minute runs. I have a CP-E second oil cooler behind the bumper, so maybe it would reach 270 without it. My water temp got up to 215 once, but mostly stayed below 210.
