Hotness!
By the way, to the person who recommended Tarminator for the removal of the old double-sided tape, let me know if you're ever in Jacksonville and your drink is on me! Freaking genius! I've gone through this exact same process before (installed a similar spoiler on my previous 135i), and back then I struggled for about 1-2 hours to remove the old tape while ensuring I wasn't damaging/scratching the clear coat, and thanks to Tarminator this time around I had the trunk lid clean and ready to go in about 20-30 minutes. Highly recommended!!! EDIT: To the guy who recommended the straight edge wrapped in a microfiber towel, you get a drink too...I don't have a single mark/blister anywhere on my hands this time around. |

For those not sure yet, go ahead and give it a try...this is one of the easiest DIY's if you use all the tricks provided on this thread. Also another small hint: if you're installing it alone, before you remove the plastic from the double-sided tape, go ahead and place the spoiler on the trunk lid exactly where you want it, and you can use painter's tape to mark where the straight edges and corners go; this way, you can do the job on your own and the spoiler will end up right where you wanted it. |

My spoiler is on order, so I'll be doing this next weekend.

Quick question for those who installed this: even though the spoiler is fixed in place by the double sided tape, can you still flex the spoiler a little up and down? No I don't mean separating it from the trunk lid since I applied tape to every surface that touches the lid, it simply seems like the spoiler itself is slightly flexible and I want to know if it's just mine.
Thanks! |

I'm re-installing my JLevi spoiler (OEM mold essentially) today and had a quick question. The whole spoiler has been repainted so I'm wondering if I should sand paper the bottom of it prior to applying the 3M VHB tape? I didn't do the intial install hence the question.

I'm concerned with the spoiler's paint staying adhered to the spoiler itself. I'm going to sand it so the 3M bonds directly with the spoiler's surface.

Ebay blows...ordered 3M VHB tape and the guy sends me a China knockoff. The funny thing is he's a high rated seller but I can tell this is not 3M quality. Can someone point me to an actual distributer for the best 3M VHB tape for this application? There's way too many variations out there as it is and I just want to be sure I'm getting the right one for the job. TIA.

I picked this up tonight and wondering if anyone else used this same tape.....I saw a video on a different thread and this appears to be the same as the OP used but everyone is talking about this other "VHB" tape...Has anyone used the 3m type I picked up? (Picked up at my local Napa/Autozone)....
