Guy in a Ford XR6 Falcon (V6 "Sport" Family Saloon) parks beside me at the Archery Range...
Ford-guy: (Notices the CF bits and general agressive look of my car) "Looks nice but what's it got? A 1.8? Me: "No." (Walks away) Guy with Twin Turbo Supra who I've just smoked off the last 2 sets of lights (Without Speeding - just hard acceleration) At the 3rd red light: "How the F*** did you do that???" Me: "Lucky..." And of course the usual "Is that an M3?" ... "Why didn't you get a 3 Series?" ... "My V8 Commodore could smoke that and it cost 1/3 as much." More times that I can count... PS: a Commodore is basically a Pontiac G8 (apparently) and is the redneck car of choice down here... Last edited by Harlequin; 04-09-2012 at 12:53 PM.. |

Yesterday.
Pulled up next to a group of guys in a car at a gas station. Teenage Guy: "What is that? Like an M3?" Me: "No, it's an M6 actually." Turn to walk inside. Teenage Guy: "WOhhh" I wonder what he thought when he backed up and saw the 135i badge. I'm still laughing.

Most people I talked to have never heard of a 1 series before.
A couple people thought they were ugly in the pictures till they saw mine in person. I also had 2 people say it was a girls car. Which I had never heard before. |

The majority of folks don't seem to know that a 1-series even exists. I do always get a lot of compliments from BMW dealerships though. Service and sales reps always say "nice!" when I mention the 135i. Those who know BMW know where it's at

Yesterday I was at a gas station and some older guy pulled up in a late model Evo MR and asked if it was an "M" I said no, and he replied with,
I'm sorry." |

This occurred while I was driving around in Northern Blvd, Queens.
Random Girl: That car looks so nice! Random Guy: WTF is that shit? That shit is so small. Me: Is that what she said to you?! What do you drive?! (Out the window) Random Guy: Looks down and walks away. Random Girl: "Chuckles" Made my day.. |

unmarked police suv comment...."nice little car"
there is a long off ramp .The ramp has two lanes and a large radius. It is possible to reach 50 or 60 mph around this ramp. I take this road daily. On one occasion, after following an Acura and passing a Suburban which was probably doing 50 itself, I signaled to get back to the right lane, at the end of the ramp. I changed lanes in front of the Suburban, thinking " man that SUV is hauling around this turn, he should have been way behind me by now". At the end of the ramp, there is a stop sign. I slowed and shifted to 2nd and looked back over my right shoulder to check for traffic at the merge, at barely a crawl. The position of the stop sign is such that you have to pass it by 20-30 feet before you can actually check for traffic. Next thing I know, lights blazing in my rear view mirror. After the usual 5-10 minutes of a license check and respectfully condescending treatment. I am let off with a warning to the effect of "Thats a nice little car. Why would you want to thrash it around like that?"

My friend didn't believe me when I told him about my 135i. He begged me for a ride at full tilt. His only words the whole ride "oh my.... what a torquey little bitch".
The standard disconcerting one (outside of a shopping center): "Is that an ///M-class?" A 328i owner pulled up next to me at lights and gave a laugh while tapping his throttle, I had the last laugh. |

When I had my 135i, I had the one "Is that the new M3" and then I had a cop pull up next to me motion to roll down the window, and of course I do, he says "You need to go home and wash that car, it looks to good to be dirty" LOL
And of course now with the 1M I get guys pretty excited to see it chasing me down telling me how great it looks from behind and then just the constant stairs and smiles, kids love it and it makes people happy |

Now that's funny...here in the US my last car was a Pontiac G8 GXP that cost as much as my 135 and definitely could smoke my 135...and you should see what those rednecks on the G8 board call us BMW owners!

And I'm talking about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_...e#Commodore_SS They're not quite the same thing... The GXP started off as an HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) car - I'm guessing from it's specs but probably an R8. It would probably trash a stock 135i in a straight line - given enough room... The old Commodore SS though, not a chance... |
