Evo Magazine Track Evening with My M3 and Joer's 1M

Joe and I had an absolute blast of a day. I had ride in David Yu's (Evo Magazine Contributor) 620bhp GTR too! An absolute monster and worthy of it's Godzilla licence plate.

Here are some photos and videos, enjoy!

Awesome stuff. For a second it looked like you were going to go straight into the back of Joe as he braked! Nice drift at the end too. Next time you go to a track, I'll happily be a passenger, if you don't mind the extra 60 odd kilos in the car!

Marcus is that a crack in the windscreen of the GTR? Also would you swap your M3 for a GTR? Overall impressions?

Cheers. Yeah, as I was already at speed I thought I may as well overtake joe, but I completely forgot my tyres and brakes had had it after so many hard laps so I had to cut across the chicane instead of taking it.

It's bird poo. Without doubt the GTR is just a whole other level compared to our M cars. The way you can power out of corners is mind boggling. But M cars are still a lot of fun and more adjustable especially with DSC off. Plus the added practicality makes ownership that bit sweeter. I would love a GTR but as a second car.

Yes it was! It was running some really sticky Yokos which made it really go. The GTR had PSS which is still only a high performance road tyre. Give the GTR some track rubber and it'll be off this planet

After fitting my new IC this afternoon some of my friends turned up......GTR is heavily modified, coilovers, injectors, intakes, remap etc. Went for a ride in both, GTR is pushing approx 650 BHP, 997 is stock but also very fast!

Brake pads

The GTR driver made mention of pads used by Ring Taxis--anybody know which ones they are, cuz they seemed fade free during my ride that was very fast!

It was me who made the comment about the brake pads. The GTR driver was asking how my M Brakes were holding up and I told him that I had upgraded them to the BMW Performance Sport Pads, which I have found to be excellent for relatively heavy track work. They fit the 1M perfectly as well given that it uses the exact same brakes as the M3.

They are extremely noisy though when cold. My friend is able to tell when I'm nearing his house a minute before I arrive! H-Manuk can tell you how noisy they are!

Yeah I figured they would be a perfect fit whatever they were; other than the noise do they work on the street or need too much heat?

They are completely street legal and the pedal feel and brake retardation response is far superior than the standard pads even from cold. Be warned that they are extremely noisy, like a little child screaming kind of noisy, everyone on the streets will be cringing every time you touch the brake pedal.

Thanks for the link; these aren't shown in US website. May actually be too extreme since like to squire the wife occasionally and don't think nails on chalkboard would go over to well...

Great videoa, thanks for sharing. And thanks on the pad tip. Wonder if our intrepid US addicts will find a way to import some.
