Conti DW vs PSS

Alright, tires in back are shot after 15k (especially after finishing them with doughnuts in the parking lot with my son!). So I would love to hear anyone and everyone's opinion!

F255/35, R285/30 Conti DW

or

F255/35, R275/35 Michelin PSS

or

Add your suggestion!! I know PSS>than DW but sure would like the fatter rubber in the back. This is a DD and I have little time for the track (sadly).

Only advantage of 285 Conti would be "looks". PSS a generation ahead.

The 275 35 PSS would be even taller than the already tall stock 265 35 PS2's.

SuperSports tend to be a wide tire for their sizing, so I suspect their 275 would be wider than a lot of 285s.

Yes. But the only problem with that...the rear gap is MUCH smaller than the front gap. Rear will look slammed, front will look 4x4.

The OD stagger is also maintained with 255/35 front and 275/35 rear. The speedo will be closer to accurate and 1st gear power should actually get to the ground better by slightly lowering the effective gear ratio. (sounds like PSS is better for that even in stock size from previous threads on the topic)

I am planning to get the PSS in this size combination. My only concern is possible rubbing on the front. It will be tight.

I am one of the first who switched to PSS back in December 2011 with 1M and I could not be any happier. And I am with stock sizes, there is so much grip and traction on any surface now I am not sure it is a very good thing to go wider anymore. But if I would do that I would stick with 255 front and 275 rear max as well. Also I advise everyone to try the PSS first and then think about a suspension upgrade, you may not need one unless you track your car very often. The car is both more comfortable and smoother while also handling better. I feel like I am driving a faster and more capable 1M which behaves like a real daily driver when you choose not to push it.

In short, size is not everything

PSS installed. Initial impression is positive. Really are great tires. Surprised that they have initially lived up to the hype.

The fronts do contact liner at full lock. Of course so did stocker tires. But there is enough flex in the plastic to not make it an issue. I dont even hear any rubbing with windows down and trying to make it rub.

The front fender gap did not noticeably change.

Rear grip is incredible but of course my ps2 were shot.

On a sad note, the bastards at discount tire scratched one wheel, the lugs and lug hole. I knew i should have brought my own plastic lined sockets. They offered to repair but i think i will take care of it myself.

You rubbed with stock PS2 sizes? I have about 5mm to spare at full lock on stock PS2.

Did you go with 255F/275R? Would love to see pics.

Mine rub stock as well, but only at an incline.

Yes, I did 255/275. Maybe by the time the rears run out michelin will release the 285. But that would be cosmetic as the 275 have plenty of grip.

I never noticed it rubbing with stock tires but when I looked you could physically see that there was contact in full lock with the stock tires.

I tried some cells pics but they suck. I will take some better pics with the dslr when wife returns with it.

Odd, I feel that good grippy tires highlight the difference between unupgraded suspension and a good set of coilovers. Instead of slipping they actually push the components.

+1. I totally agree! Tires are our ONLY connection with the pavement. They make a HUGE difference in performance.
