iPhone 5 - lightning connector with 1M?
Hey guys,
Has anyone purchased an iPhone 5 and tried to plug it to our 1M with the lightning bolt cable provided? Do we still have the same functionalities as before with BMW Apps, music as an external device and so forth? Also I was holding up to buy a snap-in adapter until the iPhone 5 came out because I knew there would be a new form and a new connector but now I'm reading that the lightning connect might no longer support video out and the plug-in feature in BMWs? Really hope this isn't the case! Let me know guys! |

Works fine with lightning-usb cord. Also, iDrive is supposed to display and read your text messages to you over bluetooth but I haven't tested this yet.

I have no NAV, so can't comment on all features but something tells me things will be broken. Below is my experience...
Via cable - audio works, charging is slow as hell, BMW Connected App from the App Store DID NOT WORK for me ( unable to connect to car ) Via BT stuff works, what else would you expect, nothing has changed. |

I'm waiting to run down my battery so I can plug it in later today. Will provide an update.
OT: Going from a 3Gs to this is like night and day in terms of batter life. I've had the phone on since doing an overnight charge on Sunday and it's still got 24% battery. Normal usage, watched the 1M v Cayman R video, downloaded a few albums over LTE, syncing via Gmail over Exchange, even made a few calls. So far, I'm a fan.

I understand that. My phone would not pair.
Update: The previous posters were correct; the iP5 will pair with the 1M. Minor user error led to the confusion.

Thanks for all the input! Hopefully the iPhone 5 Snap-in won't take too long!
Anybody able to verify if the SMS reading thingy works? Under the impression Apple doesn't allow messages to be shared via connectors/bluetooth for security reasons. |

Yes text via BT works w iOS6, email does not appear to work, yet. You may need to update your I drive firmware. There is a thread over on the m3 forums about this.

Text msgs working fine with my 5 and M3. Make sure you switch on "show notifications" by selecting your BMW BT device within the iPhone's BT setting, and switch on "show notifications". The iPhone needs to be in its lock screen for new texts to be shown on iDrive. Text msgs are removed from iDrive when the BT connection is severed.

The lack of video out on the lightning adapter is only applicable if you plug the iphone 5 into the Snap In, which supports video out ("Activate Plug-in"). Since we can't physically plug the iphone 5 into the iphone 3/4 snap in, the lack of video out won't bother us...

Hey all,
Have my 1M working via bluetooth for email and text on iPhone 5 with iOS6. Agree with all the previous comments about the bluetooth software update and the phone settings - especially the notifications on under the car-phone bluetooth connection. Hope this helps. MB |

No issues at all with Apps over USB.
I've verified MOG, Stitcher as well as BMW Remote and BMW Connect. BT just works. The 5 pairs faster than my 3Gs. The one weird thing I've noticed is that using Siri when the phone is connected via BT will sometimes make the car think it's calling my number.
