A little bit off topic...but what have you guys been using to clean your exhaust tips. With only 2.5 months of use, I have noticed significant grime buildup on the exhaust tips.
I have read in the forum that some prefer to use P21S and others have also recommended Eagle One on the stock exhaust. Is our PE exhaust any different? Any suggestions or recommendations are always welcome. Thanks, |

I've always been tempted to go with the red interior, but never had the balls to do it...gotta say it looks pretty kick-ass on a sports car with the SG exterior. Enjoy!

Congrats man glad you're finally picking up. I'm still waiting sadly. On the Spanish dragging out the registration process tho not my car lol. Your interior is beautiful not to much at all. I chose coral with alpine white trim inside which is very rare to see and I was very worried about it being too much. And even now when I still think about it in my head that's how I feel but when I see it in person it's very striking in a good way and looks amazing. You're going to love your int. don't worry and thank goodness someone got a 6 speed for once and not dct lol

Now I just need to get rid of the M-sport shift knob and get a ZHP knob on there. I got way too used to the ZHP knob to appreciate the M-sport - just not my taste.

Never drove dct either but they deff seem to be the majority even around where I am. Of all the 1ers Americans own around here I've only seen 1 other 6 speed becide mine. But I feel the same for everyday driving and not tracking I need my clutch pedal. My left foot gets bored. An ya I'm not a fan of the msport or stock shift knob either. I got the BMW performance one with alcantera. Just love how small it is and how low it sits. |

Yes was thinking about that one as well. Which one is the cleaner/easier one to one swap? I've read some threads on dismantling the stock shifter - I have no interest in that. I just want the old one off and the new one on.

DCT's feel like what 'steptronics' should have been , day 1. Really slick, sound great and can't be beat when accelerating (think video game). Minor software hiccups every once in a while that remind you they are not true manuals. There is code involved. But otherwise good tech. Glad the 'IS' is DCT and MT only. Step's need not apply.
Had the ZHP knob on my e46. Loved it, and thought about it for the 1er. But the sitting position in the 1er is higher and the ridge on the stock nob is helpful when reaching (still ugly). So I'm going to worry about other things for now. Especially since swapping them also requires a boot change (aka more $). |

That said, driving on the highway tonight it felt like the 135is had a bit more kick between 50 and 80 mph, which I think is consistent with what others have said about the PPK. Keep in mind I'm also going from the 6-speed step to the 7-speed DCT, so I'm getting the benefit of the better tranny as well. Honestly I never thought the step was all that clunky as far as shifting the paddles, but the DCT is just awesome...every shift feels instant. Still, I think the exhaust is the part that's induced the most s***-eating grins so far! I kept the stereo off on my ride home and cracked the window so I could hear it rumble at every acceleration...and downshifting as I came to a light has never been something I looked forward to before. If only it wasn't December in Boston...can't wait to roll down the windows this summer.

Well the install should be the same for either the zhp knob or the BMW performance one. Just remember our stock knobs are connected to the shift boot so you have to pull em off together and separately remove the knob from the boot of you didn't get a new one. I got the bmw performance matching alcantera shift boot at well so ill just pull off the stock knob and boot together and throw those on. But you take em off the same way. Detatch the boot from the console and pull up on the knob and then just push the other one down on it. I think you thought I was talking about the performance short shift kit which I don't have. Just the knob and boot.

Sleep?! Right!
This is just like picking up my MINI in January of '05, except this has taken a lot longer and built up more anticipation.
