For my previous out of warranty BMW, I always took my car to Steve's BMW Service in Redondo Beach.

My brakes started squeaking recently too. Were you able to get them to replace the pads and sensors replaced within warranty?

Have you tried rebedding in the pads properly?

No mention of the serpentine belt... Is there a particular mileage/time to have it replaced or is it just based on inspection for wear/age?

I've seen a bit of discussion on this topic as the cars get older. Here is my general maint. plan:
YMMV - this is just what I use, not official BMW. Gangplanks Maint Sched: Oil: 0w-40 or 5w-40 (LL-01) Oil change: every 5-7,500 mi. (BMW says 15k or annually but oil is cheap & engines are expensive) Cabin air filter: 1-2 yr / 15k mi Air filter: 2 yrs / 30k mi. Brake fluid: 2 yrs / 30k mi. Power steering fluid: 2 yrs / 30k mi Coolant flush: 3 yrs / 36k mi. Spark plugs: n54 or n55 w/ PPK @ 45k mi. or n55 @ 60k Differential/DCT/trans fluid: 60k mi. Water pump, tstat, rad. cap: 6 yrs / 60k Belts/hoses: as needed or 100k mi. (Typically will get done before this along with the OFHG which is notorious for leaks) Fuel filter: 100k (in fuel tank)? 02 Sensors: 120k? Updated...

I'm just under 65k miles, and me "service" has been overdue for 6000 miles.
Coolant reservoir was replaced this past spring. So coolant flush/refill was performed then. At the same time he either did brakes fluid or power steering fluid - I need to check which. Got new spring/dampers/FSB w/ bushings, and RSFB 2 weeks ago. New tires last week. Tire shop said brakes check okay. Rear brakes have 1800 miles left in them. Fronts still have 22,000. StopTech's are sitting in the garage waiting for the wear indicators to signal "time." Tonight: Changed the oil, oil filter, cabin filter, and spark plugs. Cleaned and oiled air filter. Brake fluid is clean and about 1mm down from Max. I have a guy who will clear the code if I can show him all work performed. What else do I need to do/inspect to consider the ~60,000 mile service "done"? Thanks!

I guess I bought BMS' $20 plug socket, too. I didn't bother asking the dealer how much a service runs, but one of the local tuners noted that there's one at 60k mi and another at 65k. (I've already done tranny fluid, and had the coolant flush recently when my reservoir popped. Brakes coming soon.) How do you feel about grease under your nails?

Not sure how much they're charging for "extended maintenance", but if it includes a clutch & set of brakes like the original it would be hard to pass up. Even without, if I was offered such a thing for a couple grand I probably would have taken it. Especially if I wasn't into DIY. Alas, I picked mine up at an Audi dealership, and it was 3 weeks out of warranty.

Recently had the yellow service light come on in the dash. Not the engine icon, just the word service in yellow. I know it's a scheduled service but does anybody know what this entails?
I bought my car new and now it has around 117K.

Have you checked the idrive or scrolled through the service due on the dash using the BC & scroll toggle on the turn signal stalk?

Just wondering what it entails. I did tell the SA I wanted a manual gearbox fluid change and rear diff. change. Had them both done at 60K, now have almost 120K. Thought someone here might know what the service is. I have a feeling I will be getting a large bill. Service is scheduled for March 29.

No harm in changing oil early. Few of us on here go the full recommended distance. Blackstone Labs has said I'm good for 8k mi, on my engine, using GC 0w-40. So I change it between 6k and 7.5k miles. Not doing the conversion right now, but that's less than 17k km. Dealer reset usually gives me 15k mi interval. |

The factory service intervals seem stupidly long. After 15000kms of ownership I still haven't recieved a service reminder, in a turbocharged car! Over that period I have changed the oil myself 3 times, each time the oil has been black as night, so maybe that isn't often enough.
