Best thing to do is ask your dealer what they used. Maybe ask to see an oil bottle and read the label. IF it says LL-1 or Long Life 1, you are fine. If it doesn't have a BMW LL-1 rating I would change your oil again and use the correct oil. Just because a dealer shanged your oil doesn't mean they are using the correct oil. Its just the oil THEY want to sell and make money off of. Each dealer is independent of BMW NA and BMW AG.

Hey Dack, since I'm CONUS now what do you think... change out from LL-4 to LL-1 soon or wait the 4-5 months until next oil change?
(Should take that long to get to 5k miles) Thx

Since your back in the states where the fuel has high sulfur content... I would switch to an LL-1 oil. Sooner rather than later. But thats just me, I'm slightly OCD.

Slightly? lol.
What's the major difference anyway? Does the high sulfur fuel burn hotter or something? Thx again

I would use only an LL-1 oil in your car.

Got it, thanks. Definitely sounds like a "sooner rather than later" situation.
I'll get the E91 changed out ASAP as well then.

Anyone able to check this oil number or know what oil it is - 83221467993? This oil was used in my 1200 mile diff. service in Nov. '11 and it does not match the specified oil 83222282583 for the differential. Is it SAF-XJ? Is it for limited slip? Is it 75w140? I checked several sites and it only says 0.5L of diff oil. Thanks.

There are many places on line in DE that sell a 5L jug for ~43 euros. Normally this oil is around 100 euros for a 5L jug.

Some dealers make up their own part number for oil when they "bill it out" on a repair order invoice. Thats bc they often buy the oil in a large barrel 60L or 600L and then bill it out in 1L increments. I am affraid you will need to ask your dealer.

Go back to your dealer and ask for more details and what type of oil and its specs - were used in your car. This is one of the reasons why I do all my oil changes myself. Because I know I dd the job right AND I used the correct oils.

Just went over my invoice tonight for the 45000 km service I had done a couple of weeks ago. Wrong tranny fluid used. I just sent an email explaining that -LT2 is incorrect and -LT5 should be used.
Will report back. Engine oil and rear diff oil are correct.

Currently, the parts guy is looking into it. I gave the reference for the servicing requirements, so should be a simple process.

Just had service done at local dealer. I am guessing that this listed 83-22-0-406-582 is MTF-LT-2 fluid and is NOT the correct transmission oil? Dealer says they searched by VIN and this is what is listed proper for my car. Any advise appreciated.

I would have them tell you which MTF-LT oil they used. Only MTF-LT-5 is suppose to be used in the 1M. Most dealers only have LT-2 or LT-3 on hand since that is what is used on the M3. Check the first page of this FAQ for LT5 part numbers. You could also call that dealer's parts dept and give them the part number they billed out and see what fluid they say it is. Dack

LT-2 was definitely used in my transmission. Dealer insists that this is correct.
Gave them a copy of SI B00 01 10 dated May 2011 and they are "looking" into it. When I get them to replace with the proper LT-5 fluid. Should this be subsequently done again, to ensure all of the "bad" fluid is gone?

Did your dealer use the SAF-XJ+FM gear fluid in the diff ? That's the correct fluid as well. Good Luck, Dackel
