My Vinyl Experience
I decided to give vinyl wrapping a shot this weekend; it turned out horrible. I have the utmost respect for the people that have patience and get good smooth jobs done. Mine came out being a 50/50, as in 50 feet away or 50 mph it looks good haha. Going to take it off and just spray the covers (vinyl was basically to ensure I'd like the finished product) as the mirrors are too advanced in curvature for me to attempt. After about 4 tries per side, this was the result:
Also painted engine cover but that's not completely finished yet Last edited by c_ozanich; 06-24-2013 at 07:44 AM.. |

What issues did you run into?
Wrapping around curves is hard, did you clay bar them, before you wrapped?

like I said first time playing around with the stuff, had no idea how to tell what it was suppose to look like other than youtube videos and trying to mimic them. I don't think my heat was correct throughout the whole process but it kept thinning out when I would try to get it to stretch more to release air and sit smooth. I'm definitely going to take a few more cracks at it down the road, but start with easier pieces. a few coats of 350z red (left over from previous paint job for a buddy) will have them looking nice and smooth and I can practice on other parts for wrapping in the mean time. |

Welp, the red inspired mirrors are off. Just didn't grow on me the way I thought it was going to. Going to attempt CF this weekend but may just leave it white. Had planned on powder coating wheels to match but decided that I'm not set enough on red wheels to leave it.
Might do it again in the future depending on wheel choice down the road-but just mirrors looked to out of place for the time being. |
