Oil Catch Can
How necessary is it really?
People seem to rave about it. I hear carbon really builds up in these engines. Can one clean it out? What symptoms would come up if I have a carbon problem (besides loss of power)? I'm interested in keeping this car long-term, like another 10 years. I just want reliability on my stock car. I'm not a modder. The most I'd do is an exhaust probably. So do I REALLY NEED an OCC? Who makes the best? Burger Motorsports? |

Some people say it is unnecessary..... So what is a decent consensus?

Read through these threads :
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518306 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=507653 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520035 I would definitely recommend running one over not. On my old 135, the amount of oil in the charge pipes and IC were immense even after less than a year/14-15k worth of driving stock.

Looking at the pics this is horrible. I kinda feel cheated. I bought a car that has potentially horrible carbon buildup issues every 30k.
Do these oil catch cans really help? Any input from guys who have looked at their valves after having had an Occ for a while? |

Bought my BMS OCC Last week, should be in, in a week or so, just makes sense to run one after reading all of these posts.

that's what I was thinking, but it seems from some guys over on the e90 forums that even with an OCC AND even Meth (however that works...) there almost nothing that can be done.

I also just got the BMS oil catch can after reading about the direct injection engines having buildup issues. My car has 33K, so probably too late to prevent anything though.
I also want to keep my car long term, I love my 135. I may have the intake valves looked at and cleaned if necessary. The BMS oil catch can is very affordable, and will probably save you money long term. |

I just ordered the new BMS cc as well, seems like the most well thought out option as it retains and in some cases increases stock line size. I am of the opinion you can make an intake valve cleaner using a meth pump and jets spraying a mix of chevron techron and marvel mystery oil which have both been shown to break up these deposits. Also adding some mmo to your oil has helped this situation on other vehicles... If I can show that this works would anyone be interested in a rental of the system from Helix? I can easily make up a setup that can be implemented from your driver seat in your driveway ie you install the adaptors in your bov holes-plug in the pump to your house electric, start the car and bring it up to operating temp, maintain rpm at 2-3000 rpm and push the momentary switch to spray the solution until you empty the reservoir, let the car sit for a few hours then beat the hell out of it wot till you clear the engine. I think products like seafoam etc don't really get equal distribution as it doesnt get injected in an atomized state like a meth injector and by all accounts doesn't work near as well as techron or mmo.

Beating a 135i at WOT requires a serious road and immunity from cops....I'm a new owner (of a used 135i w/13000 mi) and even I know I can't beat on my car too hard without getting arrested ! HA!

LOL Hear ya on that, especially on a tuned one that makes close to 390whp and 4th gear wraps out to 140 mph. I have close to 39k miles on mine now, and though like somebody said, maybe you, It's probably to late to prevent it, but at least I can stop putting more through the engine. I also plan on keeping my car a while as well, as I can't find anything close to this price range that is as near as fun to drive and own as this thing is.

I got my BMS oil catch can today. Very nice piece, with good quality tubing, and the install looks very easy.
I should have it installed here very soon, and I'll post pics. My car has 33K miles, and as I sai, probably too late to prevent buildup, but the car runs sweet and at least I can keep any more buildup from happening. I agree, there's not another car available right now with the same fun and potential for the same price. I can't think of another car that I can afford that I'd rather own.. One question, will I need to remove this catch can when I get the car smogged? Quote:

hey everyone I'm new to this form I just picked up my new 135 I I have a dinan stage 2 and a oil cooler, I just yesterday blew off my charge pipe, and I placed a order for the ETS charge pipe with the super sequential blow off valve, I did see oil in the charge pipe I am on the look for a oil catch can /
I know I'm reviving this thread but I would like some explanation on how this type of catch can really works, I run a catch can set up on my 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and its nothing like these setups I am seeing for this community. this is the way I and a lot of DSM guys run their catch cans and it's effective knowing we have crazy amounts of blow by / crank case pressure during high amounts of boost I'm not sure if it interests anyone but this is the can. http://www.jcsautomation.com/vs%20catch%20cans.html any input or suggestions regarding this topic will be great as I cant understand how, all this cans work effectively without having any pull pressure you to suck the oil into the can in the not just rely on the oil pressure itself from the valve cover, but again im new to this engines, but I would like any info from some more knowledgeable then me Last edited by 135idanny; 09-03-2013 at 12:01 AM.. |

I have a bms OCC and at first i was a bit skeptical. I had it on the car for 3-4 months and it collected zero oil. I joined the 'not functional' camp. I checked it again 6 - 8 months after that and some trips and the thing had a good amount of oil, probably a 1cm of oil.

I understand that, so like I thought it only catches the oil that drips, the way the catch can designe on my link and the one I use, it uses the suction from the turbo intake to pull it in to the can woulnt that make it less prone to carbon build,
Like I said I throw 30+psi on my eclipse with no oil on the intake ever and I also drive it everyday. |

Hi Guys! I also recently installed BMS cc and I'm finding raw fuel in addition to oil in there. Anyone else seeing this?
