You need to have the TPMS sensor on your wheels in order for the light to come off. If you don't do so the sensor won't complete its circuit and guess that something is missing.

You have to put TPMS sensors in your winter wheels.

Thanks guys. Any alternative? Maybe a dealer reset of the warning light and just run without sensors?

You could have your car coded to the EU tpms system that uses the car's ABS sensors to detect a flat tire. Once your car is coded you have to unplug the TPMS computer in the RR quarter panel. This would be another option.

Leave your summer tires in the trunk.

Actually that will only work for a mile or so. The system is smart enough to tell the wheels are not rotating and the light will come back on(i know when I had my flat last year and installed my mini donut!). lol Nice try though!

Someone once posted here a method of putting the sensors in pressurized plastic pipes and leaving them in the trunk. In Canada, we use the Flat Tire Monitoring System, not TPMS so I don't have first hand experiences with TPMS.

The sensors will go to sleep if they are not spinning to preserve battery life.
