Old thread! But for those wondering this same thing... I just put my weathertech matts in...and i noticed that if you leave the oem bmw matts underneath the weathertech...it definately catches the clutch!
I've taken it off and so far (first 5 minutes lol) it is not catching at all! We'll see if the head has anything to do with it for me :/ |

yup... you called it...
It catches What was your solution? Weathertech provided these hooks that you are supposed to screw into the floor...but obviously doesnt work cause that is where the velcro circles are -_- Did you trim the matt or did you get velcro thingies? |

Velcro and a trim just under the clutch pedal. Primary and backup system as it were.
Not impressed with WeatherTech in so much as why they didn't just affix Velcro in the first-place.

Put Velcro on the bottom and so far so good.... U would think weather tech would just include Velcro instead of these useless hooks...so atleast it could seem like they did it on purpose

Mine doesn't catch at all.
I think mine is different is because I have a clutch-stop, my clutch doesn't go even near the floormats at full engagement. |

I have the regular weathertec mats and they are good all season mats that thankfully don't impede any pedal movement but unfortunately are terrible at protecting the sides of the carpet from mud, snow, slush and worst of all road salt I was thinking of getting the digital mats but after reading this thread I think I'll just wetvac my carpets to keep them clean. If there's even a remote chance a pedal will get caught I'm out. Bad enough to have to worry about crazy drivers on the road don't need to worry about my own mats working against me.

I just noticed this thread....
Went to CanTires yesterday for winter mats but couldn't a set of fronts to fit. Can any suggest a store in the GTA that sells them for the 128i? Don't want/need anything fancy....just functional. Thanks |

Just regular winter mats...get the rubber ones from BMW. They'll fit perfectly, as with the floor-hinged gas pedal, you'll be cutting / trimming anything generic and will never be quite satisfied.

i love my mats just take a pair of scissors and cut them. draw a nice smooth line and cut along it. 5 min still looks beautiful will post pics if need be.
I was a bit disappointed that they hadn't corrected the problem but with only 5% of all 1 series being manuals suppose it's not a huge issue for them to be concerned about. |

I was so pissed when this happened to me, 140$+ tax for mats and they cause a safety concern. I pulled mine out and haven't emailed weathertech yet.

So I dropped by the local BMW dealership this past weekend. A special event was happening. Anyway, I went over to the parts counter and ordered winter mats for a 1 series. Counter guy returns with a set of mats exactly what I have in my car now!? Rubber mats with slight lands...hardly enough to hold slush and water! Left disappointed but saw some nice cars and got a free coffee

I dunno I have been using this mat since 2009 and it didn't cause any problem in my previous 135i and current 1M.. both manual... wonder if they ever changed the design or maybe they changed manufacturer?!

Just got my WeatherTech mats, and installed in 30 secs.
Removed oem mats, unscrewed driver side velcros, screwed supplied hooks, installed the mats. My pedals do not catch on the mat. 2013 135i, 6 speeds, oem stainless steel pedals.

That's good to know! Is weathertec digital liner still the best solution to go for in this car? My 128i is still getting ridiculous amounts of salt on the side of the carpets using BMW OEM winter rubber mats and I'm frustrated just enough now that I am willing (and eager!) to try another solution. |

My 128 is winter stored. A friend indicated he put a thick cotton sock over the accelerator pedal to soak up moisture from his right foot. Said it works well.

You can get BMW branded weathertech mats from the dealer and they use the velcro mounting system - identical in every other way though. Pricing from what I recall was quite similar to weathertech's pricing. I think they are called floor liners.
