which machine are you using I don't recall any of them having speed 7.
I would say use it a speed 5.5 and maybe slow it your passes and more pressure. |

What do you consider the essential products for someone with an Alpine White car? I am not really interested in buffers and such and the clear coat doesnt seem to be in THAT bad of shape. I do have red iron deposits on a lot of the surfaces of the car when you look close. I guess im really looking for a good once-every-6-months treatment. I wash my car once every-other-week. I also always start waxing my car with great intentions but by the time im 3/4 of the way through applying the wax, i usually regret the decision.
Sonax for wheels? Iron Out for prep Strip wax with dish soap, clay bar and re-wax? Are there any hand-polishes that are worth while? I guess i wouldn't mind finding an attachment for my DeWalt drill if it would make my life easier on applying polish and waxes. My front bumper is quite pitted from road rash and it looks like the dealer that sold it to me re-sprayed it based on the paint under-layer, so paint perfection isnt a goal for me. Just something to keep it looking great from 10feet. |

sure thing.
I would pick up Auto Finesse Iron Out Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner After every wash use Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer Every 3-6 months use Sonax Polymer Net Shield For a good pre cleaner you can use Auto Finesse Tough Prep or Auto Finesse Tripple by hand. Use a good car wash like Adam's Car Wash or Lusso Auto Bathe. You can wash/clay/seal your car as needed. |

Phil:
I clayed my car yesterday using Meguiar's Detailing Clay and I noticed that in a couple of areas there are some light scratches from the claying... Obviously, I picked up some grit and it scratched the surface. What can I do to get rid of the scratches and how can I avoid this in the future?

you can change your clay bar (I would suggest this every so often, when you know the car is in bad shape I would toss it after one use, typically if I use clay I cut it up into 3-4 pieces.)
I would pick up an orbital polisher and polish the area out. |

Now I feel that I was better off not claying at all. Quote:

Hey Phil,
Curious what you recommend as the best product to clean and care for the BMW leatherette. Many years ago on my previous 135 with leatherette I tried the Meguiar's leather conditioner which didn't really work or penetrate at all, leaving very weird results that I then tried to get off. I'm not entirely sure what the leatherette is even technically made out of, so don't know what to use on it, if anything at all. It's currently brand new, but I'm interested to hear an expert opinion on what types of products are best to use on a weird synthetic whatever leatherette is as there isn't much information out there on the topic. Thanks in advance. Greg |

^ Leatherette is just a fancy name BMW uses for vinyl... Though it sounds better than Pleather.
Don't know what Phil would recommend, but I've been a fan of Vinylex for a long time.

Thanks. Ya, wasn't sure if it was just fancy talk for vinyl or some weird synthetic mix of who knows what, so was weary of putting any vinyl stuff on there without finding out first. Will check that stuff out.

Hi, I have a unique issue here. Looks like someone tried to take my emblems or had trouble removing the factory ones. Do you guys think that I could take them off, wet sand the scratches and polish it out? It looks like they are just in the clear coat? How would you approach this? Evan

Hi I've got issues with road tar build up adhering to my wheels... Basically caked on little black specs. What's the best approach and product recommendation I could take to clean and re protect my wheels?
I don't have any current products for wheels and would like to get some

I'll be getting a brand new 135i this week, should I wash/wax it right away or is there some amount of time I should wait? Any specials considerations for a brand new car?

So it's OK to wax it straight away? I thought I had heard (somewhere, a long time ago) that a new car's paint needed time to 'cure' or something and so that's why I was checking. I appreciate the info. |
