BMS Charge pipe with BOV

Looked for a while for this topic but couldn't find anything. Im taking delivery of my 09 space grey 135i later this week and I'm so f***ing excited. Anyways. Im wondering if there is a way to attach a BOV to a BMS Charge pipe, or if you guys think its even necessary for my build. I plan on doing JB4, Catless DP, and the DCI. Thats pretty much it (other than the the charge pipe as far as performance. Possible a catback exhaust, and an intercooler in the future)

So really my question is, how necessary is a BOV for a car with a JB4, Catless DP, intercooler, and catback exhaust. If it is, is there a way to install one on a BMS charge pipe.

Cant wait to be a part of the 1er fam!! Will be posting picture when it arrives!

Not necessary. Just fun. It might hold boost better up top, but the OEM diverter valves COULD be just fine.

You have the N54, so its 100% safe to run a blow off valve, even vent to air if you want. I plan on doing the same soon. N55 (2011+) can't run a blow off valve with their MAF sensor (well not vent to air anyway).

I don't know if the BMS charge pipe has BOV flanges or spots for the OEM diverter valve. Your best bet is decide which BOV you want, HKS, Synapse, or Tial. I myself am going synapse, but it is all preference. Then you can buy one of the chargepipes that comes ready to use with that specific BOV. That way no custom work is needed to attach the BOV to the charge pipe.

Bms makes there charge pipe for oem style diverters. If ur increasing boost I would def get upgraded charge pipe. If ur thinking about bov I would go tial. They have better reputation. I bought synapse but returned it after reading how many failures there were with them and how synapse was not standing behind there warranty and fixing them. ER makes good charge like and so does vrsf. I went with the new black vrsf pipe and tial bov and couldn't be happier.

What about upgraded charge pipe on stock diverter valves? AKA the BMS charge pipe. I will just be running the JB4 boost set up. Can they handle that boost? (i think its 14-15 psi)

Do your self a favour and buy a charge pipe. I would highly recommend the ER charge pipe simply because it uses a TIAL BOV and also mates to the throttle body with the OEM style clip and doesn't use a silicone coupler that can possibly blow off under high boost.

The very first two mods you need to do are FMIC and Charge Pipe. Everything else comes after. The OEM CP will break and its not a matter of if it will, its when it will When that happens you'll be stranded on the side of the road and need to wait several days for an aftermarket replacement to fix your car. You also better hope that the OEM clip that holds on the OEM CP doesn't go missing because if it does, the only way to get a new clip is to buy an entire new OEM CP since they come as a set.

I did too until I angled the end of the hose up and then and only then realized that it was shooting out little spurts of oil all in our engine bays. Not for me anymore!

Also I ran my evo x on a synapse BOV and it was great at much higher levels of boost than you would hit with any N54 motor (that I've seen). The synapse uses a piston that won't eventually die like the rubber diaphragm on the others. I'd still run a HKS or Tial too, but honestly I think the synapse "problem" is a rarity being overblown by the internet.

I don't like little spurts of oil. I have to check this out.

Definitely. I loved the $2 bov mod, but it won't be a viable option without a filter at the end of the tube, which would probably muffle the sound lol.

If you're interested in a BOV style chargepipe we offer one with an OEM throttle body connection, Tial or HKS BOV and a meth bung in case you decide to go that route in the future.

Will do. Im not sure if i want to drop all the cash on a charge pipe and BOV set up right away, but i am driving to CT from FL in about a month (before i have a jb4) the charge pipe was replaced under recall already, but is it safe to run a BMS charge pipe with a JB4? Do you also think I should get a charge pipe before or after I put 1000 miles on the car in a day?

U can use any aftermarket charge pipe with a tune. Get a charge pipe and bov if diverters which ever u prefer before u get a tune. Better off doing things right the first time

I like the active autowerke charge pipe and BOV a lot. Just put one on my car yesterday. Sounds great. It's fairly loud, but you don't hear it when you're driving normally with the radio on a normal volume.

The charge pipe itself also connects to the throttle body with the OEM clip.

charge pipe isn't necessary with stock boost levels. It becomes necessary when you are tuned and you blow off the stock charge pipe and go into limp mode. Just get an aftermarket charge pipe and Tial BOV package and be done with it. Believe me, you'll be glad you did. The stock ones could leak under high boost and then you'd have to sell the BMS pipe and buy one that fits with the BOV. Tial makes an amazing, iron-clad product.
