"Dinan and BMW should be sorry, not me because if this doesn't get better, the second car in my garage will say 2014 991 TTS."

"I would have done better not buying the stuff under the hood and instead getting wheels, at least you could tell something had been done to the car."

Sounds like this M5 Dinan Stage 2 owner is really happy.

Leave your imaginary person(s) out of this,

This is a BMW thread last I checked.

I'll see a clergy member if I want to be sodomized, or buy a Dinan product for that matter.

I've had 2 N54 Vehicles, and now have an N55. I am currently leasing because I hate paying for mod repairs. My dealer installed the JB4 for me, as I cannot get a Pro flash tune for my car yet.
I've also had Cobb and Burger products on my N54's. You get what you pay for, and they're good products for the money.
If you want all out performance, most bang for your buck, Horsepower for $, go get a cobb AP, go FBO and go see a pro-tuner, You will make stupid power, you will also kill your fuel pumps, and at some point your turbos.
No matter what, having and maintaing a fast car costs money.
Can't speak to the dinan because I've never felt like pissing my money away like that.
I like the safety features that burger puts into his piggy back, the more motor sensors required to piggy back with, the more safeguards for the car.
The only drawback with this is that it is inconsistent with power delivery, just like your car isn't as powerful in the rain, and for good reason.

Thanks for the entertaining thread guys,
just wanted to add my $.02

Regarding mods, it is a big mistake to do any while your car is in warranty. BMW can detect any tuning changes and refuse to do warranty work.

My SA has the JB4 on his car, and he hasn't had any problems with it. Every time I come in for service, he always tells me how happy he is with it.

There are men out there with big bucks that can afford this aftermarket crap. For example, I recently saw a new Dinan 750 at my dealer, and I nearly fainted when I saw the price.

Most of the people on these car forums are backyard mechanics with little or no technical knowledge who hope they can spend a few buck for some cheap horsepower. They are doomed to fail and likely ruin their ride in the process. What they should stick to are cosmetic mods like wheels or exhausts. Anyway, the 135i is plenty fast enough.

If you are a bone head and want to pursue mods, you should gain some technical knowledge before reaching for a wrench. Turbocharging is a complex subject and requires some serious study. Changing the fuel and timing maps and the level of boost can lead to all sorts of unintended consequences. Anyway, there are a couple of technical books written on the subject, and a better idea would be to enroll at a university and get a degree in mechanical engineering.

The thing I don't get is how are people supposed to know you're better than them if your car doesn't have a Dinan badge on the back?

Seriously, some of these Dinan fanboys are ridiculous. You can tell they don't know their way around a car at all. I doubt most of them could tell the difference between a waste gate and blow off valve without looking it up.

His JB4 was sent from Liberia and clearly has Ebola!

Oh and I don't post on the M5 forum since I don't have an M5... If I did I'd be debating with people on why go dinan vs JB4, but I don't start shit to start it, I just can't stand boneheads like you rubbing dinans nuts like a genie lamp until the mystical badge pops out so everyone knows just how cool your car is.

Comments like "JB4 broke a drive shaft" just show that you have literally no idea what you are talking about. Literally all you do is link to dinan commercials. Show us some videos of all these secret races where dinan cars are overtaking JB4 tuned cars...oh wait...that has probably NEVER happened. Same with cobb, the superior cheaper tune if you want to go the flash tune route.

Looks like the dinan tune is basically worse than stock for the M5 you were raving about chunner?

Gee wiz.... 2 days ago, it looks like this BMS piggy box boy had enough of it and switched to Dinan on his M6.

http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=147

and I quote from that post: "I have fully defended the BMS on several occasions on the forum and it was effective at mKing my car faster . I decided to switch because of throttle modulation issues I noticed on track and the strip with the BMS and a limp mode issue on track from high EGT . It was apparent from when I looked at the harness for the Dinan and BMS the difference between the products technically are far more than I thought . The Dinan ECU has factory looms that tie directly into each banks ECU . It does far more than fool the TMAP sensor like the BMS and looks it , really quality parts . I expected quality equipment what I didn't expect was the Dinan stage 1 IS FASTER significantly than the BMS..."

We can go on, on and on..... darkrom, shall we continue?

and here's some tech talk in response to that M6 post:

"Thank you for noticing the smother operation of the Dinan ECU when compared to the competition. I thought a technical explanation of why it is so smooth might be of interest. Just to clarify the reason why you are experiencing better throttle response in general and ultimately what feels to be “more” power is based on the complexity and better control of engine tuning parameters of the DINANTRONICS system as a whole.

The DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner is MUCH more than just intercepting signals as some seem to think. There are more correction factors and calculations going on in the background of our box than anything else we have seen on the market thus far. We compensate for every necessary variable so the factory ECU is not fighting itself trying to correct mismatched variables and ultimately robbing you of power.

When Dinan is done tuning on the dyno we then go out on the road and do extensive tuning to improve performance. The road environment is different! You have better cooling on the engine, intercooler as well as more ram air. This results in better cylinder filling (more pressure in the cylinder) and requires slightly less boost to avoid excessive detonation. When you are done tuning on the road the car accelerates faster but will show a lower number on the dyno. We believe we are selling acceleration not dyno numbers.

Our numbers on a dyno may not be the max numbers out there but there is a reason. If we were to add that extra boost that other companies run, the engine will be into the knock control system so much that you can feel the correction it is making. In addition the other units on the market do not do fuel correction they rely on the O2 sensor and knock control system to drag the mixture to the correct level. The problem with this is when you change gears it takes some time for the factory ECU to determine what this correction is; resulting in a flat spot until it figures it out. This is what you were feeling. The Dinan ECU has advanced fuel control features that add fuel to the engine so we are not relying on the factory ECU to compensate for the lack of fuel. We also have a feature that adds fuel only during gear changes to quench detonation that occurs from the spike in load as a result of the gear change. The better fuel control provides dramatically better drivability. This higher level of tuning for the road and lack of pauses on gear changes make the Dinan car faster even if you measure a lower number on the dyno. Even if more boost is a little faster what good is it if the car has bad drivability."

Ok ok. That's it. The only solution here is a race. Get a FBO Dinan car, a FBO Cobb Pro Tuned car, and a FBO JB4 car. Same tires and suspension. Find a road. Let's say 5 - 10 miles long. A real good rip. Nobody in the real world goes all out for longer than 10 miles at a clip. Close it off and time yourselves, Isle of Man style. Whoever wins, that's the best tune. Until that happens there isn't much else that can be said.

Well since dinan can't handle a FBO car then we know who wins. No meth support. Can't handle catless downpipes (without the fix BMS ENGINEERED) and no speed limiter removal without bms's kit there either.

Chunner.. You're not a bad dude, I like most of the things you post, and you're a New Yorker so inherently I have your back, but you sound like a whiney little bitch at this point. If you were standing in front of me, I would punch you in the face just to shut you up, and yes, physical violence does solve some problems.

This isn't a battle of wits - far from it, so stop trying to "win." If you haven't figured this out yet, you're not going to change anyone's mind here regardless of how compelling you find your arguments to be. No one, and I mean NO ONE who holds a contrary opinion to yours is reading what you are posting and/or following your links and coming to the conclusion; "You know, he's right, Dinan really IS a great tune for my purposes!"

If you're just continuing at this point to fan the flames, then just say that and I will stop reading this thread.

edisapimp, Thank you. I enjoy your posts as well. In fact, I enjoy everybody's posts. Intelligent or not ... convincing or not ... everybody's post should be respected. However, its a shame that many peeps do not respect each other's opinion. Remember folks, this is a forum.

edisapimp, please refer to my first post on this thread. It is post #10 and there is where I wrote my "opinion". It was a respectful post. However, the responses were not.

I am not fanning the flames. I suggest you ask our fellow 1er DINAN trash writing members to stop fanning the flames and I will cease my witty rebuttals.

Cheers

I'll show up to do a race. Any dinan owners and Cobb owners in PA? I'll bring the fbo BMS meth kit and BMS E85 backend (free*) flash, JB4 g5 iso car. Good thing is I've done all mods to my car myself or in my friends garage with his help so total spent on parts to get to where I'm at is around $2.7k. That's including the spec stage 2+ clutch and flywheel. Labor is free when you do it yourself. Any takers?

@chunner your in New York. How about we meet at the German car road rally on sunday in phily? That's tomorrow. It starts at 1pm. I'll be there either way. We can get some videos of the BMS car driving with the dinan and see what does what and how much each costs. Maybe? The event is linked in our region. Just saying here's a chance to show people what you have. And I'm calling you out. Curious how you'll respond.

We can video it and take logs of how our cars are performing. You can do logs right? I'm 0% familiar with what dinan can do or has. I can do that from my phone. So then people can see also what's happening internally.

Although this would be funny and a total embarrassment, it's not the point. He would be silly to think that his (or any other dinan stage 1,2,3) car would hang with an FBO jb4/cobb car (meth or not), and he'll tell you that, too. He's never been arguing the point that the Dinan tune is faster than any other tune, or even "better" than any other tune. He's merely arguing that for some people's purposes, budgets, and motivations it's better - this has been reiterated over and over again. This is like saying that for some people green pants are better than blue. In fact it's SUCH a moot point at this stage I can't believe anyone is continuing to lend any creedance to either side of the argument. Most of us have got exactly what we want, or at least we're lying to ourselves and everyone else saying that we have what we want, which leaves nothing left to argue over. Cool!?

No. Not cool. I've only read this page and the one before. Really could care less what the others have in them. From these 2 pages I see him post a lot of things saying dinan is better and a lot of saying JB4, BMS is crap. Obviously not in those exact words. You get what I mean though. I have one of those cars running all of that and he has dinan. Why can't there be a real life comparison? Plus I love running my car. Doubt he'll find a video of this so why not? Lets make one.

That's right I'm not reading everything and jumping to a conclusion. So sue me. I tell people all the time to read the thread. Don't want to this time so I'm not gonna. I just want to run against a dinan 135i.

Thanks for the entertaining thread guys,
just wanted to add my $.02
Being you are such a nasty little fellow, I doubt you'll have to worry about anyone molesting you!
