Well, I didn't want to revamp my fuel system, so I'm working with Jake at MOTIV to first get me a "mild" tune with their 750 kit for the street for on my AccessPort and then hopefully schedule more dyno time in May (or thereabouts) for a second tune for the AP to turn up the wick for the track.

No. I'm working with Sonic Tuning to get more pics to post. They say the kit is in and they are installing my ER Comp oil cooler this week while we wait for Level10 to beef up my STEPTRONIC to better handle all the power. When I bought my 1 new back in '09 I wanted paddle shifters after 20+ years of rowing my own (manual/stick) and BMW didn't release their DCT until 2010, so...

STEPTRONIC is back from Level10. Valve bodies, upgraded torque converter and full overhaul bulletproofing service done. Sonic Tuning is reinstalling it this week. Tranny should handle 750 hp/tq whenever I'm ready to get the MOTIV fuel system overhaul kit (will need to get stronger half shafts as well), but maybe that will be a 2016 or 17 project?

Update: I got my 1 home, but all peppered up with old man winter's grime. It seriously needs a full detailing. I still need to circle back with Jake at MOTIV to complete my dyno tuning when the weather gets warmer. Apparently, dynos have a temp sensor and shutdown if it is too cold. After 10 or more attempts and only barely getting 2 to complete before the dyno shutdown to try to establish a baseline we threw in the towel for that day. So not dialed in my 1 currently is at 447hp and 380tq. I can't wait for warmer weather and hopefully it comes soon. I want to get this completed before I start the 1M rear conversion.

Since getting my 1 home I am getting a TPMS Inactive code thrown. So I am trying to research that more. Sonic Tuning had to relocate that sensor on the passenger front wheel well, so I need to double check that. It could be just bad timing and a wheel sensor died or maybe the turbo melted it or is giving interference?

Sk8fe > Since I got my new wheels & sensors. I've been getting the same "inactive" error -- annoying as hell. I replaced the module for good measure -- no dice. I went to my buddies shop and had the sensors tested -- it all checked out meaning they're all transmitting properly.
Stomped at this point. let me know if you come up with a solution. |

Funny story. Yesterday since it actually got to 40F and the roads were just wet and my 1 is already dirty from winter, I decided to take it out to try to diagnose the TPMS Inactive issue more and my wife asked if she can along for the ride. I said sure. She is so not into cars like I am, having to put gas in them is a major PITA to her, so understand that as you read on.
I start up the 1 in the garage and the new Berk resonated mid-pipe sounds nice and the 1 sounds balzy on cold start. She just says, "Oh my." I pull out at the top of my street and just drive normal until engine temps warms up but even then you can hear to turbo spool and air suck in from the new setup. After several miles and engine warms up I get on it from a 45mph rolling start. Air intake and turbo sound awesome - like a jet. Then after adding another 40mph in no time I catch traffic in front of me and the new BOV makes its cool sound and my wife goes, "is it supposed to sound like that?" I said yeah. She replies, "and you like that?" I said, yeah it's very cool. I'm sure she rolled her eyes, but just speculation as my focus was on the road. On the way home I got another gap in traffic to try another roll run. Not even with the go peddle even close to being floored, 25% maybe 35% each time I shift the STEPTRONIC to higher gear the rear end brakes loose and I need to counter steer to catch it. I'm sure a LOT of that is due to my spent summer tires In too cold of weather for too long. Under acceleration the car does squat nicely, probably too much now. I may need to replace the rear BMW Performance suspension with a stiffer setup? When we get home, she tells me that from now on if she is in the car that the transmission must remain in automatic mode and no Sport or Manual mode. And for those of you that are married or have been married for any length of time know that the only acceptable response to that is, "yes dear." |
