stock intake vs aftermarket?

i have an afe CAI on the car now, its ok, sounds good, not crazy about it...

wondering if people have switched from an aftermarket cai back to the stock intake and noticed that the stock actually makes more power/tq than an aftermarket?

realize this is a hotly debated topic....

Dyno the stock intake vs your afe and see. There are so many factors that will dictate the results. The only way to know is a side by side dyno comparison. I'm putting my car on the dyno this spring. If this isn't resolved by then I'll do it.

I don't have dyno access for a while, new job takes up too much time to go. I dynoed my afe and numbers were expected, but rough idle and hot air from engine on hot days were only downsides

Everyone knows colder denser air makes more power. On turbo cars, sealed vs open intakes don't make much of a difference because the air is heated by the turbo. Any increase in power is by shear volume of air being fed into the turbo. Make a heat shield for the open intake or find a way to make the stock intake flow better. I almost every case a hybrid style intake makes the best power. Again the fmic efficiency has more to do with the power made vs the intake. Methanol injection should be considered if the cold side intake charge is still too hot. As for the rough idle, you might need to clean the intake air temp sensor in e intake tube.

That will create more fuel trim issues and rough idle characteristics than the intake or its sensor. The tune makes all the difference.

Yeah i have a spacer in for state inspection now and it got me thinking that the tune is all the difference but I want to clean up what I can in regards to AF/r and trim

I had my CAI on and swapped back to stock for the recall. It was quieter and felt a bit more dull.

My curriosity resides with this: In colder temps where the fuel trim is affected more by temp changes as you drive, would swapping to the factory intake in colder temps help? I don't know what kind of intake you are running, and I haven't had any issues with a rough idle on my car personally, but I wonder if this might have an affect for some.

As mentioned above the only way to be 100% positive is by doing a Dyno.
That being said the gains / loss will not be of anything significant between CAI and stock(1-2 whp)

id like to make a custom seal for the intake but not sure how to go about it...the rubber strip on the edge of the intake/air box def does not "seal" to underneath the hood...may take some fabrication
