Freakin charge pipe broke...

Pulled out onto US 1 last night, fairly normal acceleration rate to get in between traffic clusters, and BOOM. I could tell something broke and then it got loud under the hood, and there was absolutely a loss of power. No CEL though, which was odd to me. Anyway, got home, took a look, and sure enough the pipe had broken. Car is bone stock except for axle back, so I thought this was odd. I know they break for you guys with a lot of power but I never expected this on a stock engine. At least there is 6 months of warranty left. Took it to the dealer today. And the CEL light did eventually come on today but did not last night.

This is why we recommend changing the stock charge pipe no matter what your mods.
Glad you have warranty

Yup, can break under stock conditions. See if you can find that c-clip in there. Good to have another one on hand as BMW doesn't sell those separately.

36K miles.

I did grab that C-clip, it was hanging on when I got home.

Dealer fixed it but I'm thinking it should be a mod to do sometime soon. I plan to go JB4 after warranty is over anyhow.

I know there are a number of aftermarket options, what's the best one? I've read about fitment issues on some.

Evolution Racewerks is the most popular one (custom made charge pipe that usually takes couple weeks unless ER has it in stock or you get it from a dealer that stocks ER products).
VRSF is a close second

More than likely got no CEL since these cars come stock with speed density and can still drive even if the chargepipe, intercooler piping pops off, if that had happened on my evo x best believe the car would of freaked out lol

Does an aftermarket charge pipe do anything performance wise? Or is it mainly for reliability?

Do anyone knows why VRSF has a single charge pipe for both n54 and n55, while BMS has two differents?

VRSF has 2 charge pipes.
Once you click on the charge pipe, it will ask you which engine you have.

I went with ER. I ordered it without a meth bung because I don't plan on running meth. They called me a couple days later saying the pipe they made for me got messed up in powder coating so they offered to give me one that had a meth bung for no extra charge. I like it because it has a flange to bolt up to the stock CP mount.
