There's a couple setups you could try to run that would be equal in price to the 1M exhaust, ironically enough. But if that's what you have your heart set on, the three pieces mentioned earlier are requisites for the job. And if you don't plan on wide-bodying the car($$$), I would advise you to just modify/buy a quad cutout diffuser and a 1M exhaust.

No intention of doing a wide body whatsoever. Thanks for the heads up.

Bump.

Has anybody done this yet? I'm really anxious to see if it sounds the same on the 135i as on the 1M.

I don't see why it would sound any different. Assuming it's an N54 you're mating the exhaust with, they should sound exactly the same.

A lot of people have done it...... you should try that little feature at the top called "search".

Ilikebmxbikes, venom, and many other users have done this. It involves swapping the battery tray, wires, and bumper (metal bumper under the plastic bumper cover) and relocating the charcoal canister. After this is done you will need to custom fab a diffuser as there is none off the shelf that will work due to exhaust tip spacing, or do a full 1m rear end conversion with bumper cover and fender flares.

No reason it would sound any different on a 1m than it would sound on an N54 135i.

End of thread.

Oh wow that's interesting, I didn't know that existed. I just magically stumbled upon this 3 year old thread.

Thanks for the info though.

So I just searched both yours and Venom's build threads, and the name Akrapovic doesn't even come up. Am I missing something here? I just want to hear a video.

I have an akra on my car.

Akra is just a brand. What you are really talking about doing is modifying a 135i to accept a 1M exhaust.

To accept a 1m exhaust, you will need to spend about $600 in parts. You will need to get a 1m battery tray, heat shielding, battery cables, Evap canister hoses, rear bumper support bar as well as a few other minor parts.

You will also need a custom diffuser as the 1m exhausts are spaced differently than the generally accepting spacing on the 135i quad exhausts.

All of this is outlined in a 135i to 1m exhaust conversion thread.

Thanks for your help, and I now know what is required to fit a 1M exhaust system on a standard 135i. But I do indeed mean an Akrapovic exhaust system, either the "slip-on" axle back or the full blown $6000 Evolution system.

I have scoured all of youtube of N54 and N55 videos in every chassis, and only 1M equipped with the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust are the only videos of N54/N55 cars that have the raspy sound that I'm aiming for with my car. That is why I am wondering if the same exhaust system sounds the same on our 135i or if it is something with the 1M itself that makes it sound raspier. It has a higher pitched, more "raw" race car sound, while every other catted/catless/resonatorless/straightpiped video I listen to of an N54/N55 sound deep and throaty.

To save me the pain of searching, do you by chance have a video of your car with the Akrapovic exhaust before the S65 swap? That would be much appreciated.

For reference, the raspy exhaust sound in this video is what I'm talking about.

There is nothing overly spectacular or individual about the 1M vs the 135i soundwise once an aftermarket exhaust is added. Anything the 1M has can be retrofitted to a 135i.

If you want your car to sound like the car in that video run fully catless from the downpipe back and if you want rasp, run zero resonators.

Looks like times have changed.. Now Non-M owners can get a 1M style rear bumper without having to do a full rear sheet metal swap.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-1M-STYLE...335d3b&vxp=mtr

Here's an OEM parts list if you want to undertake the swap:

BMW PN Quantity
51488051598 1
51718051597 1
18207798560 3
16137845193 1
16137845195 1
16137845194 1
61129217036* 1
61127845120* 1
61126929715* 1
51128051589* 1
51127131741* 2

Of course you will also need to acquire an exhaust for a 1M as well.

I saw that bumper on Instagram. The part is cheap but after paint, the parts required for the battery tray swap, labor and the akra itself, OP will be paying nearly $5k for the exhaust.
