Light bulb error when turn car on

Hello Guys,

I am getting a lightbulb error code when I turn my car on but the lights work fine.

I have aftermarket white light globes from BMR.

Have you replaced some globes with LED ones? If so you may need to disable the warnings via coding, can be done with a $20 ebay DCAN cable.

"CANBUS Error Free" globes are a fancy way of saying they've stuck a resistor in parallel with the LED so it draws enough current to fool the load detection. Huge waste of energy and is a hacky solution at best.

Those globes won't work on any of the exterior globes with bulb checking anyway. On BMWs they pulse the globes on startup so the FRM (footwell light module) knows whether a bulb is out without the driver having to activate it. This is fine for a halogen bulb as the pulse doesn't deliver enough energy to light up the globe. On an LED, the power draw is much less and it WILL activate. So on startup and periodically while driving, the cold bulb checks will make LEDs flicker, definitely not what you want.

On factory fitted LED lights, BMW simply disable the cold and warm checking of the bulbs, so the best solution for retrofits is to follow that principle.

I have now replaced all my interior lights, angel eyes, brake lights and indicators with LEDs (mostly Crees), these are all checks for hot and cold monitoring. Hot monitoring is load testing while the bulb is active, cold testing is done periodically and during startup.
