2010 BMW 128i N51 E88

Hello anyone out there know if I can replace my 2010 BMW 128i Convertible E88 N51 automatic engine with an N52? The car was in an accident and needs a new motor. There are plenty of N52 engines available however what is the compatibility to swap these motors? Has anyone done this? Dealership states it can't be done. The only thing I see that is different with the two is the N51 is a California engine with extra emissions.

Also does anyone know where I can buy a repair manual for this car? I have called the dealership, Bentley's and Chilton's to no avail. I would prefer a physical paper book manual, than computer site. Thank you for any information on this.

regarding the Bentley manual, i had to buy the 3 Series/E90 manual. there isnt one for the E82/88.
