Yesterday, i drove the M2 and 235i back-to-back around Sydney Motorsport Park on a BMW drive day. The difference in the characteristics of a 235 vs M2 was night and day... relatively, the main differences i noticed was how spongy the brakes of the 235i were compared to the M2, and the sedateness of the exhaust vs the pops and crackles coming from the M2. They were paced laps so I didn't get to fully compare handling and power characteristics but I could tell how much of a track weapon the M2 was vs the 235i... if you are planning on doing track days it's a no brainer to get the M2 over modding a 235i. For resale purposes, spending $ on upgrades is going to cost you on resale as those $ will probably mean little to the next purchaser. The M2 is a much better performance package out of the box and will hold it's value.
Having said, i'd still keep my E82 135i with JB4 tune as you wouldn't notice much difference driving them on the street and the $90K+ is not enough to justify an upgrade from the ~$30K my car is worth now. |

I was looking at buying a 996 GT3 prior to the 1M, and could have bought it at a stretch. A GT3 RS is way out of budget, and couldn't afford one without re-mortgaging the house. The price difference between a 991 GT3 and 991 GT3 RS is quite large too, so they're not necessarily the same buyer. I'd go from a M235i to an M2 without hesitation. You're paying for the chassis, not the motor. That's what makes these cars special. Anything can be quick in a straight line. You'd be better off with an RS3 if that was your priority. |

I saw a few at around the 90-95k mark early last year, but couldn't move my race car in time. Should have scrounged and bought it...the beauty of hindsight I suppose. |

I was speaking to a mate who sold is 3.2 CS a while back for big money. His mate sold one for a LOT less 2 years ago. I guess lots of people have won out and others lost out in this wild Porka frenzy going on at the moment. |
