135i Stock muffler decel rasp?
Hey all,
I've just slapped on a stock 135i muffler onto my 128i + secondary cat delete + resonator delete. It sounds absolutely great...! I had 128i PE on it and while it sounded even better, the loudness + drone gets bored rather quickly. Anyhow the noise caught me off-guard while stand-revving to check any leakage. It is some sort of "raspy" sound when rev comes down from say, 3000 RPM. The sound is similar to exhaust leak / air leaking balloon / raspy noise. The video above, stock exhaust part, is the noise that is very similar to what I am hearing. If anyone could quickly confirm that it is normal noise, it would be greatly appreciated... |

That sounds normal to me. A little burbling is what you would expect based on what you removed from the system.

A video would definitely help, although I am not a mechanic guy to tell you whether shit's broken or not.
But here is an N52 with a 135i muffler and Performance Y-Pipe, which should be a similar setup to yours. It's pretty raspy. Sounds amazing, though.

Thank you all for your inputs.
Sounds like it is indeed normal! The video swagon linked also have that distinct noise that I was a little weary about. And yes, the more I hear it during commute, the more I enjoy the noise it makes now. It is possibly the best combo for 128i owners, noise wise. To sum up my exhaust quest, Noise Level Quite to Loudest: - Stock everything (Sucks) - Stock+Secondary and Reso. Delete (No Drone) - PE + Stock everything (Awesome, clean sound but tad quite) - 135i + Secondary and Reso Delete (No Drone but loud enough, yet very clean sound, lots of backfires) - PE + Secondary and Reso Delete (Drone, massive backfires, loud as F) |
