Nitto NT01's
So, my apex wheels should be here this friday. I'm looking to get a set of nitto nt01s.
I was planning on getting 235/40/18 for the front and 265/40/18 on the rear however, Im starting to have second thoughts about fitment. The car is a stock e82 m-sport. Anybody have experience with this set up? Last edited by Jomammaa; 05-26-2017 at 05:56 AM.. |

Rear +1 is 255/35-18, so if you want 265 you may well want to go for a shorter sidewall, like a 265/35, or 265/30 even, if you want the overall diameter to be close and speedo to be sort of accurate...

Speedometer reading isn't much of a concern. I'm pretty much only going to use these at the track.
What do you mean if I want 25? Also these tires don't come in those sizes. |

was supposed to be 265, not 25, and totally spaced that you were asking about NT01's despite you clearly saying it several times- just me being worthless

Don't know about fitment on the 1ers but i had a set of nt01 for my golf. They are well worth the money. I have a hard time believing they will cause you issues there are lots of guys that run 275s.

235/40
265/35 Slight rubbing on hard bumps ect, I'm running ps91 and no issues. These are from the recent group buy. A fender roll would help, doesn't happen daily. Stock suspension

NT01/05 run taller than most tires. I would definitely go one step down on sidewall ratio. So on a 18" I would spec 235/35 and 265/30.

Curious, why do you think you need that much tire?

Be careful with the taller height tire-- It can grab the front vertical edge of the rear fender!
The NT-01 265/40/18 is 26.3" tall, a little shorter than my test, but 20mm wider than the tire I was fitting. If you are running ET60 then the tire might tuck in ok. I tried fitting a taller diameter tire on the rear of the e82. RE-71 245/45/18 which has 26.7" diameter on an ET48 wheel. Suspension is OEM BMW Performance Springs. -1.8 deg camber. Did a short test drive under 45mph. The tire grabbed the front edge of the fender when under load on a merge ramp. This damage to the fender was just 2 seconds at 40mph. A consecutive hit would likely have cut the tire as the fender was getting pulled into the tire. I'm suspecting the 245/45/18 may fit at ET 52. I'll be doing a clearance test with the rear spring removed before I try driving on them. |

sorry for not clarifying, but my front was scrapping.
Basically hit a bump and it left a bulge on the fender lip inside and left a mark on my tire wall. Not a big deal, but i do suggest if your running 235 in the front on stock suspension roll your fenders. If you want to try to run 245+ you will need camber plates and negative camber, We have pretty f'd up highways in socal and my 1er is my daily, Once i rolled it no issues at all. I have heard some people scrape on 265 rear but ive never noticed a thing, but then again im not running nt01, using ps91.

I think you'd be better off investing in a 2nd set of wheels and mount the NT01's on them for track use and get yourself some 'regular' summer tires for everyday use. They'll wear out so quick when used daily that I wouldn't recommend it. With that being said I've been very happy with the NT01's for track use. They aren't the stickiest tire out there, R1's or Hoosiers are definitely a big step up. However, the Nitto's have much better wet perform when they have tread, wear well and are still perform great even when they get very low (basically good till they cord). |

Get some RE71R and be done with it. NT01 are great...but they really are old technology. You can run them on the street just fine, but IMO just not worth it for their cost.

RE71R's are very sticky for what they are (non R-compound). They are very comparable to Nittos in terms of grip. The Nittos last longer and are much better suited to longer track sessions then the Bridgestones. So it depends what you're looking for.
Hawkeye is right though, the Nittos are quite expensive compared to the Bridgestones, but they have their advantages over them also. |
