I expect to keep mine "forever". Now forever in my case is unknown because I'm a really old fart so medical issues may mean I have to sell before I want to.
Sold my E30 last fall; had for 12 yrs & sold it for $3000 more than I paid for it. It was mint/showroom. It was a 1989 and still ran like a top. Expect my 128 to last as long (but maybe longer than me). The E30 is a classic. M3's are in a class by themselves. 325iS's are next on the desireability list-you can't find good ones now for much under $15K. So, what's left? Anything which is not a rust bucket and they are $5K-$10K. The 1M is obvious classic. The 135iS will soon be difficult to find. Any other 1 series with a manual trans, rust free and not beat to shit will always be in demand but calling them classics is a bit of a stretch. Look at how fast a 1987 325i, 2 door, manual trans, rust free will sell. It's not a "classic" but everybody wants one. Some day some small mechanic shop will do a auto to manual tranny conversion on a 1 series and they'll keep doing them as demand will be there. |

Water pump failure. Charge pipe failure. Driveshaft parts have failed. Oil filter housing is leaking mad amounts of oil. Random bulbs failing and lying about which are failing. I know there's more but I can't remember what. I got this car in what seemed like pretty damn good condition too. I can see why the last owner only kept it for about 5-6k miles... |
