Exclamation need advice: replacing water pump, ccu dead - N54 E82 2008

tried this in the diy section but no responses. hoping someone can advise.

i am replacing the e-water pump and tstat. old pump leaking like crazy. almost have it complete.

question:
my climate control is completely out, no lights whatsoever. can i vent the system without the automated 12 minute pump process without a working climate control system? is there a workaround?

i am not sure what the issue with the climate control panel is, i've checked the fuses. its my next task. i did have an open on the fan blower some time ago which i fixed; the issue returned about a year later then panel went dead shortly thereafter. thoughts?

found something that struck me odd, after removing the 'aluminum' ebolts from the pump, they stuck to my magnetic bit. so they were obviously not aluminum. i did purchase this car used and this is my first pump swap on it.

question is, with the requirement of aluminum bolts, if aluminum is not used what could happen? i am replacing with new alum bolts btw.

The replacement bolts are usually steel on the N54. The only one that absolutely requires the aluminum bolts are the n51/n52 cars with magnesium blocks.

Did you try holding your foot on the gas pedal for 10 seconds with the ignition on? If you see coolant circulating in the reservoir then the bleeding procedure is active... not sure if it will work without the hvac or not.
