Need advice here
Hey everyone! I need your advice on something.
Last year I bought a 2010 135i witch I absolutely love. When I did my first oil change I noticed that my oil really smells like gas. So I checked the spark plugs and at least two of them looked bad and also smell gas. So I concluded that at least two of my injectors are leaking. Since I live in Canada I took the decision to store it during the winter. I changed my oil again right before storing it. The thing is, my car is stored in a storage place about 10 miles from my home. I bought six new index 12 injectors to replace them as soon as the car is out, but I will have to drive the car from is winter bed to my home. So knowing that two of my injectors are leaking when the car is off and it's been sitting for five months without starting, do you think something bad could happen if I start it? I mean it shouldn't have that much gas in the oil, right? Thanks for your help. Last edited by sailokynn; 03-14-2018 at 12:37 PM.. |

Oil smelling like gas really doesn't mean much.
Smell is subjective. We don't know quantity of gas in the oil, or dilution of the oil. Don't know how many miles where on the oil. Spark plugs aren't in a fashion show; you can't really tell if or how well they work by looks. And since you didn't mention anything about running rough I would say you've really jumped the gun on all of this. Really to the last bullet right off. Next time you will want to scan for codes. The car is really good at telling you when something is wrong and what it is. You can put healthy trust in it. |

The oil had about 2000 miles on it when I changed it. I did scan for codes and nothing shows up. The idle skipped a little at cold start, i read a post that says excess fuel dumped in the cylinders could do that, that's why I assume I might have leaky injectors.
My injectors are index 6 and the car is at 70 000 miles. |

Get the oil analyzed (i.e. Blackstone Labs) before you go throwing a ton of money and parts and labor into fixing something that just might not actually be a problem.

If you've got an N54 135, you should have AAA or it's equivalent. If you did you could just have it towed over and not worry.
If you're concerned about the oil, just drain it & replace. No big deal. It's probably fine, but this is how you know for sure. Easy enough to get tools for an oil change to the storage place. What index number are the injectors in the car now? What index did you buy?

The injectors in the car are index 6 and I bought index 12. Well I currently have index 6 on the car. So even if they are still ok I think it's a good idea to change them to prevent future problems |
