Due to some personal/family reasons I really despise GM, but I've got to admit it's a super compelling car for the price.
H3ll I've been looking at Corvettes on AutoTrader lately too. A brand new flashy 'Vette red with blacked out wheels costs the same MSRP as a well-equipped M240. Heck the market is flooded with new 'Vettes exactly how I'd like them. So on the one hand, you have a very capable and reasonably handsome little car from BMW. But on the other hand, you have a V8 monster with exotic car looks for the same price. |

A literal truckload of 1le just came in to the Canadian west coast. The white one at the end got dropped off at my dealership awaiting ppi. Can't wait to pick it up when I get back.

Be careful, they are usually transported by rail to a location they can be put on a truck, but a few have reported some bad corrosion, as if it sat in the bottom rear location on the truck and was constantly sprayed with salt, so make sure to check first. Very rare, but the couple cars that did have this had it bad.

the vette cost me 64k cdn in 2015 with limited options...the m240i cost me 51k cdn with a discount in 2018 i prefer the m240i the vette obviously has more presence and is slightly faster...but its not as fun or enjoyable to drive gm still pales in comparison to the germans in the finer details which do impact how much you enjoy the drive it feels sloppy and bungled together in comparison to the precision you feel in a bmw the PARTIAL throttle response on the c7 is laggy it is big and feels big i went from a 2014 cayman s to the 2015 vette and sold the vette within 3 days and back into a 2016 Cayman s its been 3 weeks since i got the m240i and its not up for sale |

The Corvette was 'slightly faster' than you M240i? That's cute, but I think your perceptions may be skewed.
Edit: I should add that the M240i is a great car, but performance wise, it doesn't come at all close to the C7 Corvette.

My experience was different than yours... I absolutely LOVED my C7 and only sold it for practical reasons. Yes, it was a more "raw" sports car experience than my M cars but, if anything, that was more fun. I now own a 340i as my DD and plan to add another Corvette shortly as my fun car. Yep, see above

He actually opted to lease vs buy considering the issue he had with the Z06 and is very happy with it. His son has one of the first produced Zl1's and it's modified to over 900hp at the rear wheels with new pulleys and e85, which is impressive given how light the car is from the factory. Makes a hellcat look like a pig. |

It still makes zero sense to me because even if he got rid of the Z06 as a result, it would have had a similar value hit given a blown motor. Seems absolutely crazy to not take it to another dealer and get it fixed. If another dealer denied warranty coverage then he would definitely have done something to modify the engine and cause the warranty to be invalidated. Otherwise, there is no reason this would not have been covered and, at the very least, preserved the value of his car on resale. I say it's all fishy. Anyway, it's an academic discussion in any event but makes ZERO sense no matter which way you cut it.

Perhaps I should have been more precise in my language. In real world driving my m240i feels almost as fast (in a straight line) as the c7 I had. Granted I did not fully break in the vette, but neither have I broken in the m240i. the m240i is a very fast car, I have the xdrive and some argue it can pull high 3 second 0-60 times, bmw claims 4.2. the vette is a high 3 second car 0-60... I think the difference in straight line speed around town probably does qualify as "slightly faster". At longer distances and higher speeds the vette would certainly begin to open a much larger gap, but I don't drive at those speeds so they don't matter much to me. |

in the end, it's all about what brings more grins per mile, and the m240i certainly exceeds the c7 on this metric, for me. I would say that anyone who is coming from a bmw and considering a GM product should spend some quality time with the product (more than a 15 minute test drive). For me the aspects of the car I didn't like so much came out more after a couple days of driving it, and I didn't see those things on the test drive where I was awed by the sound and torque. |

Refinement is definitely not up to BMW standards but isn’t way off (again IMO) but, to me, that was part of the charm and character of the car.

But you're just deluding yourself (confirmation bias) if you think the C7 is only slightly faster than your M240i. In the end, though, enjoy your car through whatever makes you do so.

I think he has somewhat of a point, in the 0-60 realm an x-drive M240 would be only slightly faster. Most people only go "fast" in straight lines, such as stoplight to stoplight or on the highway. For a lot of practical driving, my WRX was nearly as fast or even faster than my 2010 SS. On a mountain rode, the SS (with upgraded sways) would tear apart the WRX, but in town, accelerating around some slow drivers, etc., the punch of the WRX at low speed was satisfying and as much as you would get at those speeds with something "faster". AWD launch is hard to beat. But as speeds increase, the vette stays stable, keeps accelerating, and doesn't drop-off. Around turns it'll grip far better and it'll keep more speed through turns. It is massively faster, but most people won't appreciate that with normal driving.

There's nearly a two second delta between their 0-100 times. If we're gonna start calling that close, then sure. But this is like arguing that an i3 is fast as an M3 to 30 mph.
