Was bouncing between RealOEM and Google putting together a few things for the Christmas List, and randomly stumbled across a great deal- I just picked up the complete arm rest assembly (51169110503) with the full size compartment to replace my phone version. Looks like a good one, and if needed I don't mind tearing it down to swap just the cubby... Not sure if this will work, but here's the listing- https://www.ebay.com/itm/173379221511

That eBay one looks like what I have in my car. Keep 2 Leatherman's, a knife, and a flashlight in the cubbies. Used to put the iPod in the phone pouch, until my daughter took it over. LG V20 is too big. Haven't tried the business iPhone8 yet.
If it fits, Spotify on the iPhone over Lightning/USB for music, and LG stuck to the dash for Navigation over analog (when needed), could be a viable setup.

I'm not a huge fan of my "elephant ears," but I painted them black like the 135is, which helps a lot IMO.

I've got a lightning cable plugged into the USB port for my girls to use with all their i-Things. Can easily repurpose, at least when I'm alone. (Upwards of 80% of the time.) For my LG, I stuck a Nite-Ize Steelie ball on the dash trim, and a magnet on the back of the case. Holds it horizontal just below the Nav screen. The LG is funny - it'll charge off the USB, but doesn't want to communicate with the screen through it. Also has great on-board DAC's. So, I use a 2.1A 12v adapter to charge it on USB, and use the headphone jack into the Aux port for sound. Works most ( ca 95%) of the time. Phone used to flop around a bit on the ball/socket/magnet joint. I zip-tied a 2M USB-A-to-C cable to a stereo 3.5mm cable, run up under the center console trim, and got a tiny magnetic setup to secure the cords in place on the dash - and it gives me just enough freedom to install and insert the wires, and holds the phone in one place for selecting things with one finger or following along to turn-by-turn directions. Seamless, and the only time the cords are in the way is opening up the glove box with the phone in place. (Which is a relatively rare occurrence for me, but that's where the hairbrush is. So top-down with the girls in the car, well, I try to get to the phone first.)

heh- I see what you did there, you little psycho you....
((graceful segue....)) (This will be just as fun, but different from the mirror conversation) Much like small mirrors are better, arrows are totally overrated on radar detectors. There, I said it. Fight me. I'm in lust with my Uniden R1/R3, for two great reasons- First, it's range is beyond the ability of anything on the market currently. Really, the range on this thing is just awe inspiring. Second, I have disabled (read: totally don't need around my neck of the woods)) the X and K bands, so I get no, none, nada, not even a squeak, false alerts from either old school x band store front door openers or, much more importantly, those gawd damn BSM systems (Really Honda/Acura... Really?? Somebody pay you guys to use those frequencies or something??) Arrows are just another LED. Don't care. There's a /real/ trigger out there, that's enough. Is it nifty to watch a signal go front>side>rear? Sure. Does that change my behavior? Nope. Arrows or not, don't care- If it's alerting I'm respectable. I've owned radar with arrows before, so have been there, done that. From the far side of that experience I say they don't matter.

I do it the old-fashioned way - with my eyeballs. I know it's risky (I like the adventure) but I haven't had a speeding ticket for 27 years so I must be doing something right. (actually, I don't speed that much) lol |

I used to consider speeding tickets part of the total cost of ownership of a sports car; and have enjoyed a few months of walking/riding to work and drinking every day - no need to stay sober if you can't drive! - due to a suspended license. Now, (I like to tempt fate often by pointing it out) - I've been more than a decade without any traffic offences. There are a few factors I think help to avoid getting pulled over - as you get older you either slow down and become just another car with kids in a slow-moving convoy of traffic; or you get much better at keeping a keen eye out for police and slowing down quickly. Driving a car that doesn't scream for attention, and not having a straight-piped exhaust helps immensely. Travelling at or below the speed limit, not doing burnouts, and not driving in the places & at the times that street-hoons do their thing cuts your tickets by about 90%. But that doesn't mean you need to be a sedate road user; nor does it mean that I don't drive in a way that when I eventually get caught, they won't throw the book at me. You can have immense fun on the road without "speeding" - just commit to do your level best to spend the maximum amount of time at the speed limit. Brake as late as you can. Take corners as fast as you can. Try to hit the apex of every corner you're presented with, and aim to accelerate out of every apex. Overtake whenever it's legal and safe to do so. Whenever you're moving off from a stationary position, or merging into traffic, aim to accelerate as fast as possible without wheel-spin. Travelling at 150mph on backroads is fun; so are handbrake turns on dirt roads and impromptu hill-climbs - (that's why, despite the harsh punishments, young boys still do it) - but it's also really bloody dangerous and the sooner you grow out of it, the better off you'll be. ... and back in the day you'd get a ticket - now that sort of behavior will land you in prison. (The really ironic thing is if I do 100mph on a backroad I'm completely covered by medical and property insurance. If I do the same thing on the track, I'm risking the entire value of my vehicle - because trackday insurance isn't a thing in Australia) But driving from point to point as fast as you possibly can without breaking any objective road-rules (ie. no speeding, no illegal passing etc.) is immense fun; and doesn't necessarily result in traffic offenses. |

Had our first snow here on the east coast, specifically Maryland/DC area for me. Headed out to work and decided to work from home since the roads were surprisingly icy. Wouldn't be myself if I didn't stop by a parking lot on the way back though!!
