Call Blocking Apps?
Anyone out there successfully using a call filtering/blocking app to screen out spammers, scammers, survey takers, crazy ex-wives, etc.? I'm probably getting a dozen calls a day from "unknown" numbers as well as a handful that come through from strange towns on the other side fo the country where I know no one. I'm totally sick of it and it's only going to get worse as the elections draw closer.
Looks like a lot of the apps out there cost a small amount like $20 for the year. Seems worth it at this point. So how about it? I'm on iOS BTW. Looking at: TrueCaller, Robokiller, Nomorobo, and Hiya. |

I'm assuming they're coming as private numbers? If they're not, on iOS you can just block the number. I've blocked a few myself and never got phone calls for months.

New iOS coming in the fall is supposed to have a feature/option that simply blocks any caller not recognized. I assume that is based on your contact list so some calls you might want to get may be blocked but I have to say I'm looking forward to this feature..

Yes some calls may be blocked, but the logic is that if they really meant to reach you, they'll leave a message. This is a great feature and I can't wait for this to roll out.

The cloning phone numbers (if that's what it's called) drives me crazy. I have so many numbers blocked that have the same area code and first three digits of my number, I don't think there are many left.
The spammers are getting smarter. My brother got one the other day that came up on his caller ID as a hospital. Of course you're going to answer if it shows a hospital.

It worries me to block numbers since they seem to be “cloned.” |

I get way too many calls, and blocking numbers doesn't seem to help. If it is a number I don't have stored or recognize, I just end the call without answering and move on with my day

Yes, most are "Private" or "Unknown." Then I'll go through a period of time where I'll get dozens of calls from my home area code. Funny thing is, that home area code is where I lived 8 years ago (kept my cell number) and anyone I still talk to from there is a contact so I automatically know it's spam when I seen a call from that area code that is not a contact already. I block it and they try again with a different spoofed number. Goes on for about a week.

Unfortunately, I also use my phone for work so i dont want to block any call that's not a contact. Mostly I just want to block the stupid "private" and "unknown" callers.

I get two calls, from countless cloned numbers. Because of what I do for a living and that I do most of my business from my cell phone, I HAVE to answer every call. It's either "We are calling to talk to you about your student loans" or since I bought the new car it's been "Your factory warranty is expiring soon..."
"Oh! You blocked your number or called from a clone number to sell me an extended warranty? I'll buy two because you are clearly a reputable company if your initials point of contact is from a blocked or cloned number!" I also have no student loans. Sadly, if people didn't fall for this shit, they wouldn't continue to do it. In my mind it's no different than doctors prescribing anti-depressants. They are essentially trying to play darts by throwing something that might be a dart in a dark room where there may or may not be dart board present.....but someone is going to give them money! |

Google's built-in call screen feature on the Pixel line is simply phenomenal. I am assuming it will make its way to other Android OEMs at some point, but if you have a Pixel, do yourself a favour and enable it. It's fantastic.

I am really glad the IRS keeps telling me they are about to issue a warrant, so I can get that taken care of. Also extremely pleased that SSA keeps letting my know my SSN is expiring. What would I do without all that unsolicited information?
I hope if one of my kids gets kidnapped, or in a car accident, that someone will have the decency to let me know! NOBODY told me my warranty on the 2006 E90 was expiring |

Its allowing too many robocalls thru and it's not good at detecting cloned numbers. I am getting many calls from numbers that appear to be from my area, just to find out they are robocalls.
