Working towards usefulness

Anyone here have a complete 3.23 they want to recover some upgrade costs from? Bound to the stock ratio by class regulations......you'd need to be willing to ship to/within . There's a few around, but would prefer a lower mileage version from a forum member vs a generic vendor.
Thanks.

Just picked up a 3.73 diff from a 2012 128 w/ 22k miles. Would you guys suggest changing out the seals before putting it in? Are our diffs known to leak?

22K....slap that in. Change the oil while it sits on the garage floor but only since it is easy.

how I feel about it
so I did it. mpg isn't terrible. I drive 15 minutes on the highway everyday. at 70-75 mph I'm pushing 3k rpm. beyond that no issues. the launch is way better. I'm not upset that I did it at all.

Would the ratio being slightly less aggressive help at all in your opinion? There is also a 3.62 from a 330i that I'm considering for my E91.

You're a life saver, looks like it's 3.73 or bust (or $$$ on an LSD). I changed diff oil on one of my E91s and my old E82 and can't recall ever actually looking at the input side of the diff. Just looked on realoem and the 330i setup is indeed different. Now I'm itching to get under the cars after work to check things out.

It was more complicated to install that I expected. The 130i has the dual guibo tailshaft, whereas the e93 325i has the uni joint at the end of the tailshaft. I thought it was as simple as swapping the diff input flange off the 130i pinion onto the e93 pinion, but it turns out that the 130i pinion has an aligning pin that sticks out the end and goes into the guibo to keep it perfectly centered and prevent vibration. Sooo, the solution was to swap the back half of my tailshaft to one that has the uni joint at the end. The e82 125i tailshaft is best for that as it's still e8x therefore is the correct length, and the measurement from the CSB to the 188 diff flange is consistent. Then just get the 130i front half & the 125i back half balanced together & install! Does the US 328ix have a guibo at the back end of the tailshaft? |
