Blown turbo or just a leak?

Anyone ever hear this noise before? Car will build boost up to about 5psi and then when i give it more gas above like 2k rpms it will make this noise and won't build full boost. I've looked all over but haven't found what the cause is. Just wondering if anyone here has heard it before. Thanks!

Sounds like turbo siren. You most likely have an inlet or outlet that slipped off or got hole in it. Mine was an inlet on rear turbo and then with hybrid turbos same sound was a vrsf outlet that the silicone boot melted

This is popping up all over the place. I just fixed this on my 135 N55 and made a thread on it. Mine was a leaking/broken turbo to intercooler (TIC) chargepipe and failed gasket. I had BMW shops that couldn’t find the problem. I 100% resolved the issue by installing an Evolution Raceworks TIC pipe and the turbo gasket from the F30 N55.

This pipe is plastic and literally touches the turbo outlet. After so many miles, the plastic is brittle and the gasket loses all sealing ability. I guarantee that’s the sound. Please update the thread once fixed. Good luck.

I never threw any codes when my TIC was leaking. My car would build 5lbs of boost then leak making the same exact noise. I could control it with throttle input. The turbo to intercooler pipe is neglected on these cars. It’s literally the first pipe that sees boost and isn’t commonly replaced. Multiple shops couldn’t find my TIC leak. Use a new gasket and aluminum tic pipe. My whole charge air track is now aluminum and silicone, holds as much boost as you could throw at it.

Yeah it's not throwing any codes. It already has an ER charge pipe so my guess is it's one of fittings is loose or broke. Will investigate tomorrow when I have time and let you know. Thanks for the help!

It’s not the intercooler to throttle body charge pipe, it’s the charge pipe connected to the actual turbo. This is the gasket number that fits: #11618506782

This factory plastic pipe and gasket have to hold as much boost as the rest of the system. My gasket was totally hard and not sealing. This is going to be your issue most likely.

I believe I copy and pasted the incorrect part number originally. The correct Preformed Turbo Gasket is #11618506782, I just checked my receipt from the dealership. This is for the F30 N55 models, but they have the same turbo and basic piping so outlets and gasket are the same. 11618506782 is correct.

Found the problem! It was just a loose clamp on the TIC. So I tightened that up and it all good! Thanks for the help tho man i really do appreciate it

That TIC leak noise is pretty distinct in my opinion. Glad you figured it out.

Thanks everyone for 11618506782. I thought maybe it was 13718596850. I have almost 4 hrs into trying to find this part number after I got the ER TIC pipe in the mail. Why the heck does Real Oem not show that part number. Why the heck is there a letter in my box that says to just reuse the old gasket. LOL. Just give us the part number in the letter so we can buy a new one. Thanks ER for the nice looking pipe but sending some of us on a goose chase.
