How do you reinstall the rearview mirror

Mine popped off (windshield was replaced some time ago and rain sensor wasn't working) can't for the life of me figure out how it snaps back on. TIA

The mirror mounts on a triangular mount on the windshield. If you look at the mirror, it has a triangular female in it to accept the mount.

Turn the base of the mirror 30 degrees off 12 o’clock and it will fit over the triangular windshield mount. With it over the mount, rotate the stalk until it is at 12 o’clock. It will now be locked in place.

I think mine popped off the nut, if I understand you correctly Ishould remove the nut by the 30 degree method, reinstall the nut in the mirror base and then reinstall the unit. BTW I love the euro rear fog light switch, thanks for you help!

I don’t quite follow you.

In the following diagram, part #7 is the triangular mount that is on the windshield. That mates with a female on the stalk of the mirror. To fit the stalk over the mount, you have to fit the stalk over the mount by rotating the mirror approximately 30 degrees to get it over the mount. Once over the mount, you lock the mirror in place by turning the mirror stalk back to 12 o’clock or straight up and down.

Thanks for the diagram, I suspect what has happened is the triangular mount is still on the mirror base, (I see what appears to be 3 spring wire clips that form a triangle attached to the mirror base) leaving the hex head bolt that the triangular mount attaches to exposed. My plan is to remove the piece containg the triangular mount from the mirror, hopefull install that on the windshield, and put my fiasco to bed. Your help has and is appreciated.

I was wondering if you could just 'snap on' the autodimming/compass mirror in place of the regular mirror if the wiring was already there and all you needed was the Autodim/Compass mirror part. Does anyone know?

You need to add wiring to retrofit an autodim mirror.

Not saying it will be easy, but I did this retrofit in my A4. You need to find the diagram for the mirror and then find a auxiliary power point, which probably isn't that hard to do with all the roof mechanicals and lighting up there. The rain sensor might be tough to work with too...

Tough part is sourcing the mirror without going broke. I saw one on eBay, took a chance, and it worked. From the factory, these mirrors are viele Geld.

My (2012 E88) rearview has always been a bit loose. Doesn't really vibrate, but looses position. Takes very little effort to adjust. Since my wife last drove the car, it doesn't stay in place at all. Speed bumps, potholes, breathing near it - always getting out of whack.

Think this'll fix it?

Other suggestions?

Looks like I've got different problems.

Dropping some super glue on the crack. Hopefully that'll clear it up and snug it down - and not break when I reassemble.
Will keep you posted...

Didn't work.
Slightly better, but still moved from potholes.
Not only was the ring split, but the inner cup had a broken wing.
New mirror on the way...

After weeks of back order, and about an hour of fiddling with it to align the triangles, the new mirror is up! So far, so good.
