Well, this was fun-

See, over the years, maybe once or twice a year, I'll blow that vertical boost tube out of the charge pipe (still on the original plastic riser pipe). And, once or twice a year I shove that thing back in and retorque the fancy hose clamp thing. Kinda annoying, but just a stupid thing I needed to get around to dealing with....

Monday, on the way home it decided it was a great time to do it again.

Bout a mile from the house this time, while heading home. (I live in the middle of nowhere and have great chances to stretch out on the way home)

Now, to really appreciate all this, you need to know that for the past year-ish, I've been chasing this slow coolant leak, which I figured was around the upper rad hose where the coolant tank fitting is, along with the heater hose connection.

(couple of you just figured out where this is going....)

Yeah, so, this time the boost tube exited the charge pipe with enough velocity to finally finish off that heater hose connection. I though it just popped the clip and was loose, but nope, seems it had been cracked for a bit, and this was what it took to turn the crack into a full break releasing hot pressurized coolant.

Got my phone plugged in in time to log a few moments onto my street and up the driveway, and fortunately temps never went over 215. whew....

Broke the coolant return line nipple trying to reconnect the heater hose- and removing the rad hose to replace it was when I found out the heater hose fitting was already broken, and explaining why I couldn't get it to reattach....

YAY for FCP- new Rein upper rad hose, shipped overnight, was just about $50 to the house Local dealer wanted $88, and no idea when it'd get there, maybe next day, could be next week....


Yeah, guess I should start shopping for a better up pipe...

There are several versions of these, and you have to be careful that the ones you order are compatible with the model year and options on your car (i.e. pre- or post LCI - they’re different sizes and shapes - auto-dimming, heated, etc.)

I finally got my seats fixed up. I bought them used off of ebay from an older E82. They weren't in the very best of shape when I got them, and they had been getting progressively worse with some leather showing through on the bolsters from cracking and scuffing.

I had seen a video on the Ammo NYC YouTube channel about a company called Fibrenew that was pretty impressive, so I had Fibrenew in the Quad Cities come out to fix the cracks and re-dye the seats, and the results are really fantastic. I couldn't be happier with the after. We'll see how they hold up, but right now, they look almost brand new...

Will start with a routine maintenance of the pan, filter and oil…
Then solenoids if need be…
If all else fails then I'll just push it wherever it needs to go!

Reverse easy out bit and prayers that it comes out. It should come out since this a brand new spark plug that I idiotically over torqued.

Did some maintenance today...

-Oil Filter Housing Gasket. Seemed to be original with 88k miles. When I purchased the car I noticed some seepage. Lots of gunk underneath the housing that mostly cleaned up with brake clean. During the process I seem to have broken the plastic coolant flange (mickey mouse flange?). Ordered an aluminum replacement. Thankfully it's not leaking too bad right now...

-Oil Change, liqui moly 5w40. Wasn't sure what the previous owner used or when the last time it was changed. Old oil looked good coming out. Oil filter looked good to.

-Serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler. I noticed some squeaking on idle and saw the tensioner was a little loose. All fixed up now.

-Transmission and Differential fluid change. Both fluids looked really good coming out. Not sure if they were changed before but now I have peace of mind. Redline D4 ATF in the manual transmission and Redline 75w90 in the diff. Why the hell didn't BMW put a drain plug on the diff? I gotta find a better siphon system next time I do this.

-Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter. I really don't like how they did the Air Filter housing on these cars lol.

Had to give my 2013 128i M-sport M6 a shot of refrigerant today. The passenger side vents were cooler than the driver side. Checked and it was low. Now nice and cold in preparation for record temps on the way . . . again! We'll see how long the a/c holds the charge. Never had to do this before.

My impression is that it's pretty common. Had to do it on my '12 e88 at 115K. When I bought my current E82 at 89K, the original owner had already done it. I consider charging it, as long as it holds, a cheap way out. There are stories of more expensive fixes that involve dash removal.

I also added some r134a to my 2013 128i msport. Used the AC Pro can (~40$), and it actually did read low before adding. Just needed 2 or 3 pulls of the trigger to get it into the Green area, and A/C seemed much better afterward. Dealership quoted me 350$
Will test it this week since temps are supposed to be 100+ F

How did you find changing the gauge overlay?

Damn! That's my worst nightmare with the Ford 4.6L. For what it's worth, I would spray some carb cleaner in there and let it loosen up the threads. If you're lucky, you can use an EZ-out to grab onto what's left of the lower plug. Lisle makes a specific spark plug removal tool. Unfortunately I think it's going to shatter the porcelain in the process. If you get it to loosen, be sure to vacuum the shit out of the hole it before you remove it.

You might put a dab of JB Cold Weld on the top and let them harden back together and then try to remove it after spraying with carb claner. You must be exceptionally careful not to put too much or it will really lock it in there.
