DIY: Leather repair E82
Good evening all,
I am reaching out today in the hopes of some recommendations for a (DIY) method of repairing a crack in the leather of my E82 seat bolster. I have a 2012 BMW 128i with black leather seats. I am unsure of the paint dye code and name of this leather and any further information on that would be helpful. If there are any kits with an adhesive leather filler, airbrush, and dye kit that is known please PM me or don't hesitate to reply to this thread. I'm open to any advice and would like to deal with this situation sooner than later. Thanks! |

Honestly, I would just give Fibrenew a shot. I just had my front and rear seats redone for less than $500 US. My bolsters were cracking also, and they look practically new now.
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...php?p=29024744 It looks like there are lots of Fibrenew shops around Toronto: https://www.fibrenew.com/locations/?...C+ON%2C+Canada If you really want to do it yourself, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that are pretty good. I have used leather filler and dyes from Leather World Tech that worked and matched well. https://leatherworldtech.com/dye-colorant/ |

On your year, if it's the side of the bolster where it gets crushed, particularly as you get out of sport seats, then the cracked material most likely isn't leather but vinyl. Partial leather became a thing that BMW never admitted to sometime around 2010.

Leatrherique [to my mind and many others] has been the go to product for many many years. Their web site is excellent for DIY. I used their dye product about 10 years ago to dye all the seats in my 2002 330i, std seats. The drivers seat was showing some wear and cracks. Also owner had kept tires in the rear seat and this stained the seats [and nothing removes these stains.] I followed their instructions to the "T" and the end product was fantastic. Now remember if 1 week, 1 month, 1 year down the road if a spot needs a little touch up, you can do it b/c you have the knowledge and product to do it. |
