116i E87 engine noise when engine warm
Hi All,
First let me introduce myself. I already have been a member of these forums for a while mostly reading about all the great mods and fixing issues with my E87. I own my E87 for almost 4 years now and I am very happy with it. Doing my own regular maintenance on it. Most difficult repair until now has been replacing a failed starter motor. I now have a strange ticking noise in my engine when the engine is at operating temperature (> 10/20 min drive). It has been doing this for more than a year. The first minutes after starting the engine from a cold start all sounds perfect (only the injector sound). It is the N45B16 engine. Based on all the topics here I already changed the chain tensioner to the newest BMW part as preventive maintenance but that doesn't change anything to the sound it is making when the engine is warm. Also already drove by the BMW dealer so a mechanic could listen to the engine when warm. He doesn't seem anything is really wrong based on the sound, but to be honest I don't believe this is a normal sound of the engine and next to that the ticking noise drives me crazy because you can also here from the cabin. Recently did an oil change and could not notice any metallic parts in the filter (indicating a rod bearing wear). Does any of you have any idea what is going on with my E87? Here is a video with the sound from the engine when warm: |

Well I don't know what's going on here with 4 replies off subject. I don't think noise is normal. Try and see other mechanics for their opinion.
