Unlocking doors with running engine?

Hi folks. You may well laugh at this.
Still new to my 118i 2011. But today I realised I could put my key fob in the slot to charge, cool. But then I drove to the shops. Wife gets out and I have to drive and park with the engine running nearby. Doors lock.
So, how do you unlock the doors when you are inside with the engine running!!! I finally realised after trying to wrestle the food out, and turned off the engine and the fob released so I could unlock the car!
Is there a better way, it was way stressful not to say newbie embarrassing.

Got the answer. I could have pressed the central lock button on the dash. Wish I’d known then.
