Options for engine in 135i DCT
Recently, the stock 250K+ mile N55 engine in my 135i DCT developed rod knock while driving to the store. I had the hopes of using this car as a track-only car, knowing that I would have to replace/rebuild the engine at some point, that time has now arrived. This is where I'm seeking help. I have a few options available to me, and I can't really decide which way to go.
My main focus is reliability on track. All options would be prepared to handle track-only use (such as the S55 oil pan/pump swap on the N55 or a dry sump on the LS motor). I will be towing the car to the track, and it will never be driven on the road or registered with the state. Any feedback and/or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

You should also address the transmission. I have a 2013 135i with the DCT too. I haven't driven my car under track conditions. But from what I read, you'll need to address the DCT as I've seen a few posts about how the DCT went into limp mode due to overheating. I don't know if there is any mods that would address this problem. I know of a metal trans pan that's available for our DCT with I think more oil capacity and cooling fins. And when you say track, I'm assuming road course and not drag strip or autocrossing.
