How is this exhaust setup?
So I'm buying an N54 135i and want to keep the car stock and reliable enigne wise first. Wanted to do some simple modifications such as some sticky wheels and tires, as well as some good coilovers. Though the car is quite quiet from factory. I eventually plan to go FBO on the stockers on pump gas. Though for the time being I was thinking of re doing the exhaust setup with VRSF catless DP and their 3" Street catback exhaust.
What sound will this give me? I do not want any rice or rasp, all I want is a nice refined growl that you can hear and isnt so quiet from factory. Will this setup give me what I am looking for? Or am I better off keeping the stock exhaust and going with the catless DPs. I read about secondary cats and I think it would be beneficial to keep them, for sound and smell once I go catless DP. Not really sure what the ideal setup is here for my needs, as I said I'm looking for a refined, not ricey sound that isn't too loud, but just right. |

I struggled with the rasp for a while. I went from muffler delete to catless down pipes with the vrsf street exhuast. I had fitmentbissues with that exhuast (not uncommon tbh) so i sold it.
Bought the n55 mid pipe , i think its that same minus the cat, with a muffler delete. That was pretty loud and beyond raspy. And finally i threw the stock axle back on, chopped off the muffler and replaced it with the vibrant 2.5in ultra quiet resonator. And the sound in my opinion is perfect, no rasp at all. But it isnt loud enough for me. Much louder than stock, but quieter than what i remember the muffler delete being. If you are interested i can film a video for you. |

Tricky. Keep in mind that as you change things up top the exhaust note changes.
That said, the exhaust is really quiet as the twins act as mufflers. You'll want a resonator near the back end to take care of rasp. Drone will be a problem with basically any non stock system. The pipes are very short and hard to line up the pulses. I have a fully custom system with tuned harmonics and a drone canceling pipe and still get drone for 300rpm or so.
