1m badge ID

Hello to the forum,

I have seen a few 1Ms but not seen this badge on the ashtray before.
Does it have any special meaning?

Best

That looks like the 1 of 450 badge they put on cars sold in the UK. Not sure if any other markets had their own version.

Correct, I believe it was the UK and France market that did this

Thanks for the info.
I have done a bit of reading around the forum re this subject of the badging for different markets etc.
The question I have is does the badge add any provenance or premium to prices? ie. being the first batch to hit a market despite more un-badged coming later.
Im currently looking at a 2011 badged (1 of XXX) and an un badged 2012, they are almost identical - although the badged one is 20% higher in price.

All things being equal that badge is not worth a 20% surcharge.

I agree that the badge does not demand any premium. Every car sold in the UK was eligible to get one of those and they were not sequentially numbered.

That being said, I assume you are looking at the car posted for sale on trademe.co.nz. That car appears to be the #2 car produced for the UK based on VIN sequence.

VP75405 was a preproduction car
VP75406 was probably the first customer UK car
VP75407 is the car posted for sale

Maybe to someone having the #2 of 450 car is worth more. But there were no major changes in the run of 1M cars like say the Z3 M coupe that gained the S54 in the later builds.

Thanks for the reply, which brings me to my next question. Is there any differences across the production years?

Nothing material. The increased production from the original planned numbers caused them to build through June 2012. Legally they had to label those MY2012, but there were no new options or features on those later cars.

You can think of it as an extended single production "year" lasting 15 months from March 2011 to June 2012.

The #1ermregister made a badge with the specific production number:
