Too loud. Will also get tons of rasp. Get a MadDad whisper if you like deep roar.

I have my car fully straight piped and i love it, but I am only 18 so im still young. But as for drone i feel like my car has always had some drone and now its just louder , but im already used to it and just turn my music up if i dont want to here which doesnt happen much. Only thing you can really do is watch youtube video of it to see, not the best way to tell but itll help.

I recommend you start step by step and just stop once sound is too loud. Start by doing catless downpipes first

I agree with going catless first. However when i deleted the cats driving with windows rolled up honestly was not enough change for me to notice. And not really sure if it was louder with windows down. I am looking for a muffler replacement now to give the car more rumble.
Edit: catless not carless Last edited by tommyb13662; 10-14-2016 at 06:09 PM.. |

Inlets and downpipes are finished today, surprised at how quiet the setup is! Catless downpipes, muffler delete, stock n54 mids. When not wot its really mellow i can barely notice much difference. I didnt get a ton of wot pulls as my intercooler coupler and sound baffle thing kept popping off. Regardless i will have to cutout the midpipe cats and replace them with resonators. Then it should be where i want it.

This is a VERY subjective question.
I'd agree with Mike, the ideal way to go is to get catless dp's to start, and then delete from there. THE BIGGEST MID MISTAKE people make is deleting the resonator. in most cases they are a straight through perforated tube design. They aren't restrictive and they remove a lot of the unwanted noise and drone. I'd make sure your stupid butterfly valve is welded open if you're keeping the titanic mufflers (not the golf tee mod). The secondary cats are tough, the right side is easy to remove, the left, not so much, unless you drop the exhaust. At the end of the day it is an inline 6, which has it's own unique sound and sound challenges. Me personally, I wanted to be able to hear the car. I have a stick car and would find myself in 3rd gear at 55 - 60, engine rpm too high for cruising and had no idea. For me, I like V8 sound, so initially, my muffler delete was for functionality. I later deleted the cats and went MHD stage 2+. The cat delete was for performance, and the thrill of shoving my middle finger up the EPA's a$$. |

I’m pretty happy with my set up, 135i n54 man. I went catless downpipes first and notice a change when outside car and had a nice power jump. It wasn’t that loud especially with stock muffler. Tried Golf tee mod ame open it up at low rpm.
Got a deal on berk street muffler only and has a sharp rasp to it. I am pleased with this set up and butt feels a few ponies especially at higher rpm. I decided to go berk mid pipe after that and figured with the huge resonators and already having the street exhaust it would be good…. It wasn’t!! I went too far. I got a power bump but traction hit its limit on launches and I have lsd. That wasn’t really the issue tho. It was the smell. No more cats and it stank too much. Also it drone below 3k. I sold the mids and happy with catless and berk street muffler. |
