Who’s in 2025 and still loving on the 1 series?

Recently moved back home to South Africa from the UK after living there for 8.5years…

And if you know the UK, you know that place hates Petrol (and Diesel) cars. Taxing the life out of you for not conforming to owning an EV…

So after selling my F30 320d in the UK, I set my sights on finally owning a 135i with the N55 motor.

Picked this 2011 DCT in Alpine White up in Jan’25 and started slowly returning it back to OEM spec.

There’s not many of these around anymore, and those that know when they spot a 135i on the street…they truly know.

I Bought it with black wheels, way too dark tint, side skirt decals, debadged trunk, big boot spoiler and carbon wrapped vinyl parts dotted in the interior trim.

So I’ve returned the wheels to Silver, removed the tint, decals and spoiler and refitted the trunk badge. Retrimmed the steering wheel and done a paint correction on it.

It’s just great to daily this thing, doing the school run with my two young kids who love the loud sound of dad’s car, or doing some canyon carving over weekends or casually keeping up with modern ///M cars when they don’t expect you to on Cars&Coffee runs.

Long may us simple car folk enjoy the sounds, smells and looks of the everyman-performance Coupé which is the 135i

Hi, my name is Claire.

I don’t normally name my cars but Claire is the previous owner and I think the name fits.

2012 135i DCT owner for 6 months here (technically 9, but road legal for 6) and I agree.
I also own a (mint) Euro spec E36 M3 3.2 SMG1 and while it’s amazing, and feels special to drive, objectively speaking, the 1 is more fun to drive.

Pocket rocket (MHD stage2+ multimaps) for sure and kicks the M3’s rear as much as I hate to say it haha.
Short wheelbase, perfect steering wheel, and that DCT box, I love the way it drives.

And I just got back from Nurburgring Nordschleife and the car drove brilliantly.

Me! 2008, owned since new, ordered by me. Less than 17000 miles. Lowered on Bilstien PSS 10, Quaiffe LS, M suspension components and subframe mounts, high flow cars, N55 mid pipe, MPerformance Exhaust, M side skirts and front bumper, with cf lip spoiler. M Performance carbon fiber mirror caps, deck spoiler and rear diffuser, Forgeline staggered wheels, with white barrels, Shadowline rear lenses, rear fog light enabled, with factory light switch. Alpine White, Coral Red interior. JB4. Just saying

The thought occurred to me yesterday this might be the car I keep when I sell all the others, all owned since new by me, and several ordered to my spec, with the exception of my 89 M3. I have an early 95 M3, a 95 LTW with about 16000 miles, a 2015 M4, 2016 GTS, 2017 M2 Performance Edition, 6 speed and they all are Alpine White with the exception of the aforementioned 89 M3, and the Saphire Black GTS. This 1 series is an absolute rocket, that makes crazy power up until redline and isn't as run of the mill as the others. Just saying.

2011 135i

I've had her for just 8 months now and slowing getting it sorted as a club / occasional track car.

It's running a MHD Stage 2 tune, BMS Cold Air Intake, Wagner Tuning Intercooler, VRSF 3.5" Cat Hi-Flow Downpipe, VRSF 3" Exhaust and BMS Oil Catch Can.

I've also just changed to Simmons FR1s
Front: 18 x 8.5 Bridgestone 235/40R RE71RS
Rear: 18 x 9.5 Bridgestone 255/35R RE71RS
