When my BMWs reach 4-year after delivery, what will happen to Connected Drive if I don't pay? Will I lose BMW factory navigation?

Will I lose BMW factory navigation?

If I’m willing to pay to continue, how much is it? There doesn’t seem to be any price on my car or the BMW app about this?

More than likely just won't get any new map updates post subscription. It will still work, just on previous maps. Also I'm in an F series, idk if that makes a difference.

In BMW app, go to Vehicle Control Center, click on Upgrades for your vehicle, it then goes to BMW website, from there you should see all the options available for your car, expiry date of each service and some should be for life / unlimited, for example: remote engine start (if you already had it). Once the service expired, you can pay to use it every year.

I can't find anything official from BMW – seems that they don't publish the price for some reason – but according the Internet (which is never wrong) it's $150 a year in the US market.

It is $150/ yr. If you have iDrive 7 that had climate settings for automatic activation of your heated seats & steering wheel, that also goes away. It can, however, be coded back in with bimmercode without paying.

Yes we did find the price list for all the Connected Drive capabilities as JABCAT mentioned. I haven’t tried it so I can’t recommend it, but I think what we can do is that we could buy a 1 year policy and let the subscription lapse to see what we miss. Then resubscribe if we want. Here is east Tennessee the nav map updates and XDrive are a requirement. Whenever we drive around, the most popular vehicles are AWD SUVs and 4x4 trucks.

JABCAT - what a beautiful X3M! Love the color.

Had mine expire last year for my M550 with ID7. Lost traffic with rerouting, spotirfy app stopped working, pretty much everything through the app stopped, seat and steering wheel heat rules. I’ m sure there is more.

But I like ID 7 nav and how it look vs carplay so I resubed. At least with Carplay or Android Auto we have options.

When I re-activate the heated seat rules with bimmercode, I found I could now activate the rules for the rear seats also in my wife's X3MC which wasn't a standard feature when connected drive was active. The only thing bimmercode won't do is re-activate the rules for the cooled seats - which were pretty useless anyway.

We have't missed any of the other features.

I tried Carplay with my 16pro for a month or so. I prefer using ID7. I like the native Spotify app that uses BMWs data not my phones, the native maps display guidance on the hud better imo as well. The only thing I liked more about Carplay is Apple maps are more aesthetically pleasing to me.

I've found that I prefer iDrive 8's nav to Apple Maps or Google Maps, which surprised me. Outside of streaming Apple Music and texting (which Apple has made so much worse) I really don't use CarPlay.

In my 2021 M340 I found the iDrive Nav to be much more convenient than Apple or Google, since it used the rotary controller in the console. Much more convenient to reach down and rotate and click a controller than it is to try to find and touch the right buttons on a screen while driving.

For my 2021 M340 I bought BMW map updates from a third party source, and IIRC they ran about $100 each year for a subscription that included 3 updates throughout the year. I don’t know if that is still possible with newer versions of iDrive that seem to be subscription based.

I use CarPlay exclusively and have never used the BMW navigation in any of my BMWs. CarPlay functions the same, i.e., can control it with the dial, displays directions in the HUD, etc.

At least in iDrive 8, the BMW nav's HUD display is much better IMO. As you approach on/off ramps, etc., it gives you a little map view of them. There's really nothing CarPlay nav offers that isn't in the native nav, unless you're using Waze and want the cop warnings.

Plus, and this is obviously dependent on what car you're driving, the BMW nav routes me to chargers and pre-conditions the battery for arrival if necessary. This gives you the best charging speeds and is something none of the CarPlay apps can do.

CarPlay does the same. On multi-lane highways it also highlights which lane to be in for the exit. For me, it's just quicker & easier to use CarPlay.

Spotify playing on my phone also sounds better than the Spotify app in iDrive.

This is what I'm talking about – they're more detailed. At least more so than I've seen in CarPlay. Has it changed?. But don't get me wrong – use whatever works best. Definitely not saying that anyone's doing it wrong or something silly like that.

$150 yearly to keep a redundant Nav when I use CarPlay Apple Maps/Waze is not worth it to me.

I still use the built-in maps occasionally. Good backup option if out of cell range.

Im not a young guy either, but subs can be a good or bad thing on perspective though. In this case the features are using the cellular data connection. That has a recurring cost, there is a cost of updating maps as well, so I don’t mind as long as the price is reasonable to me and in this case they are.

At least on my ID7 cars what doesn’t need that data connection still works once the sub runs out.

old gal here and I do agree. I don’t think it’s capitalism but the addiction to the latest “bug and glitch resolving” patches. My phone, ipad, laptop, home security system and now my X3 require updates and subscriptions.
