Curious as to rarity of my 2008 135i...

Hello everyone. I was very fortunate and won a beautiful 135i fairly recently on Bring a Trailer. I have been researching it and think it was a very low production model and am curious if anyone may have more specific details. It is a 2008 135i 6MT convertible(cabriolet) with the sport package(M-sport package). I have seen information that there may have been as few as 200 or even less than 100 of this combination produced for the US. If anyone has a similar vehicle or knows the production total I would be very appreciative. Thanks. Oh, and I love the car!

Wasn't the M-Sport package pretty common on the E82/E88?

I know my old 2008 138i E88 had M-suspension but not the M-Sport package. Always thought it was a great car, but nothing rare.

2008's had sport pkg but not M-Sport. Being a cab with a 6MT it is "somewhat" rare.
Your bigger issue is to find a very good BMW indy garage because these can break your bank account if you have to take them to a BMW dealer for everything. The easiest way to save your money is to learn to do oil changes yourself. Plus learn to check and change if necessary your cabin filter. Use only 5W-30 or 5W-40 oil with BMW Long Life 01 specification on the back side of the jug.
In the East here, many of us use FCP Euro for parts.

Nice car! Not rare in any way that matters though. Enjoy it!

I believe mine has the M spot package along with M spot suspension. Its also a 2008 E88. Fun car to drive and can treat you well if you don’t abuse it. Its an 18 yr. old car.

Don't all 135's have the sport package regardless?

But anyways, unless it's some 1-of-1 BMW Individual spec'd car, it won't be rare.

Does it have active steering?

All 135s came with the M body kit and M sport suspension.
Sport package cars were equipped with the M sport steering wheel and shifter and sport seats, and style 261 wheels.
M Sport package cars came with M sport steering wheel, shifter, black headliner, M door sills, style 261 wheels, "shadowline" black exterior window trim, and sport seats.

There were several stand-alone options, like power folding mirrors, iDrive, automatic transmission, parking sensors, powered seats, sunroof, keyless entry and start, etc.

Dealer installed options included the M performance catalogue parts (exhaust, short shifter, power kit, rear diffuser, etc.)

The IS cars added style 313 wheels, M performance power kit, and M performance exhaust.

Look up your VIN VIN Decoder and you will see more detail. I won a 2013 is model on Cars&Bids and there was some discussion about it because it was missing an interior emblem. The is model is fairly rare but not enough to increase its value by much. Just enjoy your car.

Very nice car indeed! You know 6MT 128i models are pretty hard to find. You may ever only see a handful (if that) for sale nationwide. I guesstimate manual transmission 128i with the NA N51/52 engines have to be < 1000 in the US or less (prove me wrong!). But guess what, most people don't care. I do though because this setup is special to me 😍

Not very common. More something you'd expect on a 5 or 7 series car.

Point is there are so many options that there's usually some more that aren't there. Not that all options are must have options, but an option nonetheless.

So, one question that was discussed at length several years ago - does your 135i E88 have 17" wheels? While all E82 135i came with 18", the E88 version standard wheel was 17" and on the 2008 I recollect they were square - not staggered.

Do 17" wheel clear the 135i six-pot calipers?

Yep, style 380 are 17x7" and fit over 1, 2 and 3 series big brakes.
I use em for winter parking/storage.

I have a 2008 135i 6MT E88 with M-Sport package and about 107,000 miles. The M-Sport package was standard on all 2008 US 135i E82s, but optional on the 2008 135i E88. I have a dealer brochure from back then that I ordered on eBay. Nice info in there.

At over 200k miles, what maintenance have you had to do? I did turbos and a boat load more at 95k.

The turbos were replaced under warranty at 70k or so (around 2012). Replaced shocks with Koni Yellows at 150k (also installed Whiteline RSFB inserts). Replaced leaking gaskets (pan, valve cover, filter housing) at 180k. Water pump died at 110k. I just proactively replaced the water pump again and 70% of the hoses at 210k. Dinan stage 1 tune installed in 2018. I think that is all the big stuff. (Four windshields😬)
My front bumper looks like it’s been sandblasted. I personally like that “driven patina”.

Nice! I did a lot proactively to mine and added the BMW PPK2. Hopefully, it will hit 200k some day. I have M3 RSFBs, but decided not to install, I should probably just sell them.

I’m relocating from Iowa to the Florida Keys in a month, so I’ll get to drive it year round!
