There was a similar study done by a university here in Canada about 15 years ago. It tracked the number of use of force vs interactions with the public and then broke it down into minor injuries, serious injuries all the way up to fatal use of force. The stats were so ridiculously low that even the cops were surprised by it. I recall using the researcher to testify at a use of force death I was involved in investigating.

As an aside, I've been retired 10 years now. Time flies. Keep your head down Clan.

That’s great insight. If you happen to come across that study, please do share it. I would love to read it.

Head down, but on a swivel indeed. Appreciate it, Sir!

Surprised the driver didn't claim he wasn't driving but riding...

That good citizen almost talked himself out of a traffic violation into something more serious.

Cop has some patience.

He held his cool very well. Funny enough, I found out a few days ago that when a Tesla is in autopilot mode and a police officer initiates a traffic stop with lights and sirens, the car will pull itself over. I acquired this knowledge because the motorist I pulled over was knocked out asleep as the car drove itself (…which was the probable cause for my traffic stop), and it pulled itself over promptly after I initiated the stop. I had to wake the driver up after I arrived at the driver’s side window.

I am SOOOOO impressed with the Tesla auto driving system. It actually recognizes it is being pulled over???? Even more impressed.

I think my next car is a Y L. With auto driving so I can eat my (forbotten) donut on the way home from Safeway.

Sadly it might be a while. Driving a 2021 X5 that has 42K on it and have no reason to upgrade. Only drive about 10K a year.

I was really impressed as well. I want to replicate it, so my plan is to get someone with the feature in their Tesla to record the car’s behavior during a traffic stop.

On that TV show over the weekend, Baton Rouge PD impounded a Corvette for allegedly drag racing away from a traffic light. Their law is that any vehicle being driven in a street takeover or even accelerating aggressively is impounded for 15 days on the spot...no court, no presumption of guilt, just a tow to the impound lot for a mandatory time-out.

Contrast that to a certain west coast city that we all know, where street takeovers resulted in riots/looting two nights in a row:
