It's seems like RFTs are like FWD was back in the 80's... The car companies will try to sell the public on the safety of 'em, but it's really about packaging and cutting costs |

It's a BMW with 300 HP for $35k.... So there are a couple qualms you have with the styling.... I look right past them.

They are pretty expensive to replace and per BMW Centers they are not repairable. It's a sham...The Tire Manufactures make more revenue off auto manufactures that use them and it also generates more money for BMW Center Service Departments.

I'm starting to think that the dream of 35K for the 135 is going to be just that...a dream. I'm guessing it will get to 40K rather easily....

Think about what you are saying. A 135i that costs as much as a 335i...doesnt make sense. Why do you think this, just curious.

Looking at this picture reminds me that I read somewhere that the 60/40 split was standard on the one series. This kinda bums me out because on the 3er it's an option you get witht he cold weather package I think. At some point on the e90 post forums, someone posted a sort of torsional rigidity on the 3er with 60/40 and withou it. The difference was huge, I can't remember how they were measured but the car without the 60/40 was 17000 (whatever unit of measurement) and the car with 60/40 was 13000 (wum). I was planning on skipping the cold weather package on the 1er for this reason, does anybody believe it will still be an option? |

Could be that with the smaller size or more mature engineering in the newer 1 coupe, that differential has been resolved to the point where there's no need to compromise the convenience of the passthrough for added regidity.

And it is very difficult get a 335 for 40K--your average 335 runs in the mid 40's....

I think a key issue is going to be how the options are grouped. For example, so many things are a-la carte on the 328i like power seats, premium sound, and xenon headlights, that when I build a 328i and 335i on the website, they end up only around $3000 apart from each other. I think that's a bit of a problem coming so close to each other, because it ends up being a poor choice to not spend the extra $3000 and go with the 335i. The other packaging problem is the M-sport option group availability. No M-sport suspension with 6 piston brakes for the 128i is gonna be a deal breaker for me.
I forsee the same close-in-price problem in the 1 series caused by too many standard things on the 135i being optional, and overpriced as options on the 128i. There's many people in here that will be quite happy with the 128i and want to stick with the traditional non-turbo I6, and don't want to risk the classic N54 problems like fuel pump failure and overheating (especially in a smaller and tighter package). But if it turns out that you build both a 128i and 135i and they are within $2500 of each other its going to be a tough choice to buy a 128i. |

The benefit is if you want a small RWD coupe and don't mind just an option or two you will most likely have a 128i for a very reasonable price.
There just isn't any competition for small RWD cars in the US. Honestly if the Mazda 3 sedan was RWD or AWD with the 2.3l Turbo I’d probably just go for that since it would be so much cheaper but still very fun. The best that is out there now is the Mustang GT and Mazda RX8 and they are not small cars and only the Mazda is reasonably light at 3,000 or so pounds. It also doesn’t come close to the power of a 335 or 135. |
