I enjoyed that. Thanks guys/gals.
What I took out of that: - 135i could do with a stiffer suspension setup. Did you guys see the body roll compared to the Cayman? - dailing out the understeer will help the 135i go around the track a bit faster - 135i is really good value. Over here, 135i is $71.4k while Cayman is $118k. - I can't wait to get mine! |

Yeah, cool vids, but I was expecting the severely underpowered cayman to be a bit more behind. The cayman S would indeed be much faster then.
Tiff did say that neither timed lap was clean. I prefer the other format where they race each other. Not the best for times, but more enjoyable to watch. Whenever they have a tiff/plato shootout, I always wish they would switch cars and give a comparison review. |

wow, that was wonderful. I really wanted more of a gap between the two cars but what we got was pretty impressive nonetheless. I don't know what you guys are talking about when you say the car was unflattering in some angles. I think it was beautiful all around. I used to hate the styling but it's grown on me and all through the videos i was watching in awe at the grace the car had and MAINTAINED through the track.
I didn't see understeer, I saw a car's unwillingness to lose its back-end (yes, I'm playing the semantics game here) which one could take any way especially with a BMW which has a near 50-50 weight distribution. It performed beautifully. The only thing I wish they had shown more would be actual shifting. I would have loved to have seen how the car shifts, where, how hard it pulls at those speeds, and what RPMs it lands at when you upshift. It seems to me that this car is the embodiment of what all the other BMWs are losing. All the other models are growing up, becoming more mature cars, heavier, more gadgets and toys for the older audience. This car is the rebellious younger brother that gives a resounding "fuck you" to its pretentious family's ways and lives by my philosophy of "Go big or go home". |

For those of you North Americans who are not exposed to touring car racing, Jason Plato (the younger guy) is actually one of the best tin top drivers in the world. Tiff is also a legend, having driven in just about all categories of racing in his past, including a couple of F1 races. So these guys are amazing drivers, better than any of the topgear guys. Stig aside perhaps, as no one really knows who he is but many suspect he is a top flight ex-racing driver (I think he would be).

well, that's where the tii comes into play. the 325 and 330 aren't perfect, however the M3 is damn near that and still allows some room for improvement even though it plays hard while stock. It seems they've done the same with the 1

honestly, while the 135 is a coupe, and sporty, I wouldn't necessarily call it a sport coupe... I'm honestly not real sure what would really be considered a competitor... I know personally I am not cross shopping the porsche in comparison. If I was going to drop over 50k on a coupe I would look at a cayman but would probably end up in a vette...
Just my two cents. |

It seems most reviews I've read are amazed how fast the 135i is despite its handling shortcomings.
Does it make sense then, that once the tuners get a hold of the 135 that it would completely smoke a car like the Cayman and even a Cayman S, even if the Porsches had some tuner bits on it. |

I agree though they are too totally different cars, but everyone is having trouble comparing this car to anything in it's price range....and I applaud BMW for that. |
